Ivy Tech Community College stands as Indiana's largest public postsecondary institution and the nation's most extensive singly accredited statewide community college system. Founded in 1963 as Indiana Vocational Technical College, its original mission was to provide technical and vocational education to support the state's industries. Over the decades, the institution has evolved significantly, broadening its scope and impact. In 1995, the name was changed to Ivy Tech State College, and a pivotal partnership with Vincennes University in 1999 formed the Community College of Indiana. This partnership concluded in 2005 when the Indiana General Assembly officially designated Ivy Tech as the state's comprehensive community college system, renaming it Ivy Tech Community College. This charter solidified its role in providing accessible and affordable higher education across Indiana. Today, Ivy Tech serves nearly 100,000 students annually, in addition to over 60,000 dual-credit high school students, across more than 40 locations and a robust online platform. The college offers over 70 academic programs organized into eight distinct schools, including Information Technology, Health Sciences, and Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Science. A key component of its mission is workforce development, offering associate degrees, short-term certificates, and industry-recognized credentials that are directly aligned with the needs of Indiana's economy. Furthermore, Ivy Tech has established extensive transfer pathways, allowing students to seamlessly transition to four-year universities within Indiana and beyond, providing an affordable route to a bachelor's degree.
