Kora, formerly Korapay, is a pan-African payment infrastructure company founded in 2017 by Dickson Nsofor. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with significant operations in Lagos, Nigeria, and an office in Birmingham, UK, Kora is dedicated to dismantling digital financial barriers across Africa. The company provides a robust suite of payment solutions designed to empower local and global businesses to seamlessly accept payments, make payouts, and manage settlements across various African markets. Kora's offerings include pay-ins, payouts, payment links, checkout services, virtual bank accounts, card acquiring, bulk payouts, and API solutions, catering to a diverse clientele including startups, fintechs, and logistics companies. Initially conceived to offer financial tools for NGOs using blockchain technology and later focusing on remittance services, Kora pivoted in 2019 to a business-to-business (B2B) model. This strategic shift enabled the company to develop a comprehensive payment infrastructure. Participation in the Techstars Toronto accelerator program in the same year provided Kora with crucial exposure and growth opportunities. By 2022, Kora had secured a commercial Payment Service Solution Provider (PSSP) license from the Central Bank of Nigeria, significantly expanding its operational capabilities within the region.
