About

The story of Maddox AI began in 2018 within the fertile grounds of Tübingen, Germany, a region renowned as 'Cyber Valley' and Europe’s largest research hub for machine learning. Initially operating under the name Layer7 AI, the company was born from a unique collaboration between leading academics and seasoned industry professionals. The founding team was a powerhouse of expertise, combining professors of machine learning from the Cyber Valley ecosystem, former strategy consultants from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and expert software developers with experience at IBM Watson. Their initial focus was on consulting projects, applying their deep knowledge to various client challenges. It was through this hands-on work that the team quickly identified a critical and pervasive pain point in the manufacturing industry: the immense challenge of automating visual quality control. This realization marked a pivotal moment, shifting the company's trajectory. In 2020, driven by immense client demand, the team began developing the Maddox AI platform, a dedicated solution for AI-based visual quality control. Their mission became to empower every manufacturing company, regardless of its in-house technical expertise, to produce and ship products of optimal quality. They set out to build an intuitive, end-to-end platform that would allow companies to train, deploy, and monitor their own AI inspection models, thereby reducing defects, minimizing waste, and boosting overall efficiency. Supported by high-tech partners like Microsoft, Nvidia, and AWS, Maddox AI has grown from a consulting firm into a product-led company. Today, it provides a scalable, software-as-a-service solution that bridges the gap between cutting-edge AI research and the practical realities of the factory floor, helping leading manufacturers across Europe move towards a future with zero defects.
