The People Concern's story is one of convergence and deep-rooted community commitment, born from the union of two of Los Angeles County's most trusted social service organizations. While the agency in its current form was established in 2016 through the merger of the Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC) and Lamp Community, its history stretches back over six decades. OPCC began its work in 1963, responding to the needs of the community in Santa Monica, while Lamp Community was founded later to address the specific challenges of homelessness on Skid Row. Recognizing that their missions were aligned and their combined expertise could drive greater impact, these two powerhouses joined forces to create a single, unified entity dedicated to ending homelessness and domestic violence. Today, The People Concern stands as one of Los Angeles County's largest social services agencies, driven by a philosophy that everyone deserves to be housed, healthy, and safe. The organization operates with an integrated system of care that goes beyond simple shelter. They provide a comprehensive array of services including outreach, interim and permanent supportive housing, mental and medical health care, substance abuse services, and domestic violence support. By tailoring their approach to the unique needs of each individual—whether they are survivors of domestic violence, challenged youth, or chronically homeless individuals—The People Concern empowers the most vulnerable members of the community to rebuild their lives and achieve long-term stability.
