About

What began as a passion project in a college dorm room has blossomed into a global leader in online learning. The story of UWorld starts in 2002 with Dr. Chandra S. Pemmasani, then a medical resident in Pennsylvania. Frustrated by the poor quality and high cost of study materials for the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), he took matters into his own hands. Dr. Pemmasani began crafting his own case-based learning questions, meticulously designed to mirror the actual exam. He initially wrote 250 questions with the intention of publishing them as a book. However, after sharing them in online forums, he was met with an overwhelming wave of positive feedback and a fervent demand for more. This pivotal moment marked the true beginning of UWorld's journey. In 2003, with the help of his brother, Ravi Pemmasani, and his wife, Sriratna Koneru, 'USMLEWorld' was officially born. The company was founded on the principle of active learning, a methodology that engages students throughout the entire learning process to improve retention and critical thinking. This core philosophy, combined with an unwavering commitment to quality, quickly set them apart. The company, which rebranded to UWorld in 2014 to reflect its expanding scope, has since grown exponentially. From its initial focus on medical exams, UWorld has expanded its offerings to a wide array of high-stakes tests in fields such as accounting, finance, nursing, law, and college admissions. Today, with a team of over 750 professionals, including accomplished doctors, nurses, lawyers, and educators, UWorld continues its mission to make difficult subjects easy to understand, helping millions of students and professionals achieve their academic and career aspirations.
