About

War Child is the only specialist charity dedicated to improving the resilience and wellbeing of children living with violence and armed conflict worldwide. Founded in 1993, the organization was established by filmmakers Bill Leeson and David Wilson, along with peace activist Willemijn Verloop, after witnessing the devastating impact of war on children during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. Their mission is clear: no child should be part of war. Ever. The organization works exclusively to ensure that children affected by conflict can realise their fundamental rights and build a better future. War Child empowers children by providing essential services including child protection, education programmes, and psychosocial support. Their collaborative approach is locally driven and locally led, fostering long-term capacity of children and their families to develop the tools they need to break the cycle of violence. They aim to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and support them long after the cameras have gone, delivering life-changing services in communities affected by conflicts to keep children safe and help them heal and learn for the chance of a better future.
