Brief description

The main purpose of this position is to administer, maintain, install, configure and support the network solutions, including routers, switches and related software, by ensuring optimal availability and performance and resolving problem areas promptly and accurately.

Detailed description

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key performance areas:

  • Administer, setup and securely configure network hardware such as routers, switches and firewalls, as well as associated network solutions.

  • Diagnose and resolve network issues, such as connectivity problems and provide technical support to users.

  • Provide second-level support and perform routine maintenance on the network infrastructure, including implementing necessary upgrades to improve performance and security.

  • Implement network security policies to protect the network and its data from cyberattacks.

  • Stay abreast of industry developments and best practice and apply these in the course of own work to enhance the resilience, redundancy and continuity of the network.

  • Consistently apply standard operating procedures and methods within the network infrastructure.

  • Manage user access, permissions and rights within the network.

  • Compile and provide network status reports to inform decision-making.

  • Provide technical input (technical diagrams, technical procedures and work instructions) to the development of knowledge base articles to preserve technical knowledge.

  • Proactively monitor and report on network services availability and reliability.

Job requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must be in possession of:

  • a National Diploma in Information Technology (IT) (NQF 6) or equivalent;

  • two to four years of job-related experience in IT support environment and administering networks environment.

Additional requirements include:

  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Accreditations − Network-related certifications will be an advantage (CCNA/F5/Checkpoint);
