Account Manager / Outside sales Representative

The Account Manager / Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving sales growth and increasing company profitability by developing relationships with existing customers and identifying new business opportunities. This role combines inside and outside sales responsibilities, promotes company products and services, and provides technical support within an assigned territory.
Job Responsibilities
- Identify, contact, quote, and close sales opportunities with prospective and targeted customers.
- Grow sales and average order value through cross selling, up selling, add on sales, promotions, and new product offerings.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of company products and applications to professionally support customers and prospects.
- Monitor competitor pricing, products, market activity, and customer trends.
- Maintain a professional appearance and always deliver exceptional customer service.
- Collaborate with management to develop territory plans and establish sales goals.
- Evaluate sales potential for new and existing customers through research, observation, and customer interaction.
- Prepare and conduct product presentations for new and existing customers.
- Assess customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
- Identify and address trends related to customer satisfaction or dissatisfaction.
- Develop new business opportunities and expand existing accounts through strategic sales efforts.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure long-term satisfaction and retention.
- Continuously develop product knowledge and industry expertise to support sales growth and professionalism.
- Assist customers with special requests, problem resolution, and product information.
- Visit customer job sites as needed to provide measurements, consultations, or customer support services.
- Gather competitive and market intelligence while collaborating with internal teams.
- Negotiate pricing and terms alignment with company profitability requirements.
- Prepare and present customer quotations in a timely manner.
- Communicate significant changes in product demand or market conditions to management.
- Assist with scheduled physical inventory counts as required.
- Monitor customer credit status and communicate concerns appropriately.
- Stay informed of local codes, industry standards, and customer preferences.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Participate in sales meetings, supplier training, trade shows, and industry events to remain current on products and market trends.
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all customer and supplier interactions.
- Maintain proficiency with contact management, distribution, and office software systems.
- Represent the company professionally in industry associations and local organizations.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar sales role; 3+ years preferred.
- Product and application experience are strongly preferred.
- MSHA and OSHA certifications or training preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven ability to meet sales goals and grow business revenue.
- Strong understanding of effective sales strategies and techniques.
- Excellent customer service and relationship building skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication, listening, and negotiation abilities.
- Self motivated with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards.
- Strong problem solving, analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities effectively.
- Ability to perform business math calculations, including basic algebra, ratios, and percentages.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and distribution software systems.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees, customers, and vendors.
- PPE required when visiting job sites in accordance with OSHA/MSHA standards.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, crouch, kneel, and stoop for extended periods of time.
- Ability to climb structures and work at elevated heights in various industrial environments.
- Ability to work in industrial facilities, including chemical plant environments.
