Accounting Systems Development, VP

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and strategic technology leader to serve as Vice President, Accounting Systems Development, responsible for driving the design, development, modernization, and operational excellence of enterprise accounting platforms and financial technology solutions.

This role will lead multiple engineering teams supporting core accounting functions including General Ledger (GL), Sub-Ledger, Financial Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Reconciliation, Close & Consolidation, and Financial Controls. The successful candidate will partner closely with Product, Architecture, , and Operations teams to deliver scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that support business growth and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate combines deep software engineering expertise, strong accounting domain knowledge, and proven experience leading large global technology organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Leadership

  • Define and execute the technology strategy for enterprise accounting systems.
  • Lead modernization initiatives including cloud migration, API enablement, event-driven architecture, and platform engineering transformation.
  • Design highly available, scalable, and resilient financial systems supporting mission-critical accounting operations.
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture, security, risk management, and compliance standards.
  • Drive adoption of AI-assisted software development, engineering productivity tools, and automation capabilities.

Product & Business Partnership

  • Translate accounting and regulatory requirements into scalable technology solutions.
  • Lead strategic initiatives involving General Ledger platforms, sub-ledger architectures, financial close processes, accounting rules engines, regulatory reporting, and data governance and controls.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders on technology investments and transformation opportunities.

Engineering Excellence

  • Lead multiple Agile engineering teams across development, QA, DevOps, and production support functions.
  • Establish engineering best practices covering software architecture, secure coding, DevSecOps, test automation, observability, and performance engineering.
  • Improve engineering effectiveness through metrics such as DORA, reliability KPIs, and operational health measurements.
  • Promote software quality, resilience, and operational excellence.

People Leadership

  • Build and retain high-performing global engineering teams.
  • Mentor Engineering Managers, Architects, Technical Leads, and Senior Developers.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and inclusion.
  • Lead workforce planning, talent development, succession planning, and organizational growth initiatives.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree is a plus.

Experience

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 8+ years of people leadership experience managing managers and senior technical leaders.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale enterprise financial or accounting application development teams.
  • Experience supporting accounting functions within financial services, banking, asset management, insurance, or large multinational organizations.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex modernization and transformation programs.

Technical Expertise

Strong experience in one or more of the following:

  • Java / Spring Boot
  • .NET Core / C#
  • Python
  • React / Angular
  • REST APIs and Microservices
  • Event-driven architectures
  • Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP)
  • SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL
  • Data Warehousing and Data Lake solutions
  • CI/CD and DevOps practices

Accounting Domain Knowledge

Strong understanding of:

  • General Ledger processes
  • Sub-ledger accounting
  • Financial reporting
  • Month-end and year-end close
  • Reconciliation workflows
  • Accounting controls
  • Regulatory reporting requirements
  • Financial data governance

Experience with platforms such as SAP, Oracle Financials, Workday Financials, BlackLine, or similar solutions is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, CFA, or equivalent finance/accounting certification.
  • Experience leading globally distributed engineering organizations.
  • Experience in cloud-native financial platform modernization.
  • Knowledge of AI, machine learning, and GenAI applications within finance technology.
  • Strong understanding of SOX controls, audit requirements, and operational risk management.
