Role & responsibilities :

Key responsibilities

Architecture and design

• Define and own the target architecture: AI agent layer, integrations, data platform, web and mobile clients
• Design how Claude-based agents use tools, memory and guardrails to run autonomous workflows (e.g. reading emails, extracting invoices, posting to Xero)
• Select the technology stack, with mobile-responsive web and app packaging as a hard requirement
• Produce architecture decision records, diagrams and non-functional requirements (security, performance, availability, cost)

Hands-on build

• Build core services, APIs and integrations alongside the Product Owner using Claude Code and AI-assisted development
• Integrate with Xero and other SME systems (banking feeds, email, payroll, payments)
• Set up CI/CD, environments, testing and observability from day one

Data, security and trust

• Design the data model behind the SME Intelligence Graph and the AI training data pipeline
• Implement the data rights framework, privacy controls and audit trails before the first customer is onboarded
• Meet Australian Privacy Principles and financial-data security expectations; design for later US and UK expansion
• Manage AI model risk: cost control, fallback providers, evaluation and human-in-the-loop checkpoints

Partnering and leadership

• Translate product requirements and accounting rules into technical designs with the Product Owner and accounting team
• Assess and govern external vendors and delivery partners, and review their technical proposals
• Advise on build-vs-buy and open-source licensing (e.g. Odoo Community, LGPLv3) to protect ProsperAI's IP
• Lay the foundations, standards and hiring plan for a future engineering team

Preferred candidate profile :

Essential

• 8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years as a solutions, technical or cloud architect
• Hands-on production experience with LLM APIs agents, tool use, retrieval and prompt design (Anthropic Claude preferred)
• Strong backend skills in at least one of Python, TypeScript/Node.js or similar
• Cloud architecture on AWS, Azure or GCP, including serverless, containers and managed databases
• API design and third-party integrations (REST, webhooks, OAuth)
• Relational data modelling and secure handling of sensitive financial or personal data
• Comfortable using AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code) as a core part of how you build
• Clear communicator who can explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders

Desirable

• Integrations with Xero, MYOB, open banking or payments platforms
• Experience in accounting, fintech or SaaS for small business
• Mobile app delivery (React Native, Flutter or PWA)
• Event-driven systems, workflow engines or tools such as n8n
• Knowledge graphs or vector databases
• Familiarity with ERP platforms such as Odoo and open-source licensing
• Security and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001, SOC 2, Australian Privacy Principles)
• Startup or zero-to-one product experience
