Application Developer Sr I

Salary: $130,000 – $150,000 per year

As an Application Developer Sr I, you will help drive and support one of our engineering squads building IDEXX Veterinary Software's platform for animal health, based in our Auckland R&D hub. This is a hybrid role, with the flexibility to split your time between our office and home.

The Veterinary Software engineering team is expanding across our Clinical, Practice Management, and Client Engagement domains, building new squads to unify our portfolio of cloud platforms and move faster on our technical roadmap. You could be a driving force behind electronic clinical records, practice management workflows, or the tools that help practices engage their clients.

In this role

• You'll lead by example, hands-on delivering features and shaping engineering and architectural best practice across the squad.

• You'll partner with your squad, Product, and Technical Leads to shape fit-for-purpose solutions and keep the roadmap moving.

• You'll guide and mentor the engineers around you, helping build a culture of accountability and end-to-end ownership.

• You'll contribute to the definition and evolution of IDEXX's engineering values, principles, and standards across all squads.

• Your day-to-day will include working with modern web technologies, including TypeScript, Go, and cloud-native architectures on AWS.

• You'll help prioritise pragmatic technical improvements, such as debt recovery and refactoring, alongside new feature delivery.

• You've worked with event-driven architecture, domain services, containerisation, and distributed systems, and enjoy exploring what's next.

What you need to succeed

• Proven experience as a Senior Engineer, with strong technical capability in systems and/or software design

• Experience leading technical work to solve complex problems, and guiding others through it

• Experience with modern web technologies (such as React), cloud backend technologies (such as Go, TypeScript, or other OOP languages), and cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS

• Strong object-oriented design patterns and modular design, with experience building and consuming modern APIs

• Confidence with unit testing, and experience evolving culture and process toward better engagement, agility, automated testing, and DevSecOps

• Experience guiding agile processes, including Scrum, Kanban, or similar

• Previous experience in a scaled SaaS environment (nice to have)
