Established in 2000, Dural Christmas Tree Farm is Sydney’s
largest fresh Christmas tree farm. The business supplies fresh Christmas trees
directly from the farm, as well as pre-cut Christmas trees, and provides
services including netting, delivery, installation in Cinco Christmas tree
stands, collection, and recycling.
The Purple Lion Group Pty Ltd operates and manages Christmas
tree plantations and requires a qualified and experienced Arboriculturist to
assist with the specialist care, maintenance, assessment, and management of
trees across its plantation operations.
About the Role
Dural Christmas Tree Farm is seeking a full-time
Arboriculturist to support the health, safety, presentation, and long-term
management of Christmas trees and related tree assets.
Reporting to the Manager, the Arboriculturist will be
responsible for assessing tree condition, implementing tree care programs,
pruning and shaping trees, identifying and treating pests and diseases,
maintaining plantation growing environments, and advising on appropriate tree
management practices.
This role is suited to an experienced arboriculture
professional with strong practical knowledge of tree biology, tree health,
pruning techniques, pest and disease control, safe equipment use, and
plantation-based tree management.
Key Responsibilities
The Arboriculturist will be responsible for:
- Assessing
the health, condition, growth, and structural integrity of Christmas trees
and other trees, including identifying pests, diseases, nutrient
deficiencies, and environmental stressors.
- Pruning,
trimming, shaping, planting, and maintaining trees to promote healthy
growth, safety, presentation, and commercial quality.
- Implementing
tree care and treatment programs, including fertilising, watering, weed
control, pest and disease control, chemical application, and soil or
plantation maintenance.
- Maintaining
irrigation systems, tree support systems, tools, equipment, and plantation
areas to ensure effective and safe tree management operations.
- Removing,
managing, recycling, or disposing of dead, diseased, damaged, or
unsuitable trees in accordance with business and safety requirements.
- Supervising
and training casual staff in safe tree care, planting, pruning,
maintenance, chemical handling, waste management, and recycling practices.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, applicants should have:
- Strong
knowledge of arboriculture, tree biology, tree species, growth patterns,
and tree-care requirements.
- Practical
experience in assessing tree health, diagnosing pests and diseases, and
implementing suitable treatment programs.
- Demonstrated
ability to prune, trim, shape, plant, and maintain trees safely and
effectively.
- Knowledge
of fertilisation, irrigation, soil management, weed control, and
plantation maintenance practices.
- Understanding
of chemical handling, safe application of sprays and fertilisers, and
relevant workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability
to use arboriculture and horticultural tools and equipment safely,
including chainsaws, handsaws, pruning equipment, spraying equipment, and
irrigation tools.
- Strong
risk awareness and ability to identify hazards associated with tree work,
equipment use, chemicals, and outdoor plantation environments.
- Good
communication skills and the ability to supervise, train, and coordinate
casual staff.
- Strong
problem-solving skills and the ability to make practical decisions
regarding tree health, treatment, maintenance, and presentation.
- A
commitment to environmental responsibility, tree preservation principles,
and sustainable waste and recycling practices.
Qualifications, Licences and Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A
relevant qualification in Arboriculture, Horticulture, or a closely
related field, such as an AQF Certificate III, Certificate IV, Diploma, or
equivalent; or
- At
least 3 years of relevant full-time experience in arboriculture, tree
care, horticulture, or a closely related role where formal qualifications
are not held.
- At
least 2 years of relevant practical experience in tree care, pruning, tree
maintenance, plantation tree management, or arboriculture.
- Knowledge
of safe chemical handling and willingness to maintain relevant training
and certifications.
- Physical
fitness and capacity to perform outdoor work, including pruning, planting,
lifting, operating equipment, and working in varying weather conditions.
- Current
driver’s licence is desirable.
- Chainsaw,
chemical handling, first aid, working at heights, or related safety
tickets are desirable.

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Dural, NSW.
