The Assistant Bookstore Manager is a full-time, 12-month administrative staff position reporting to the Director of Union Services and Administration. This position is primarily located at the Senatobia Campus and will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Oxford and Southaven campus bookstores. The Manager will develop and manage e-commerce operations, and support after-hours events as needed. The Assistant Bookstore Manager provides leadership and direction to Bookstore Clerks, identifies emerging trends and best practices in collegiate and independent retail environments, and helps ensure efficient and customer-focused bookstore operations. The position requires strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with initiative, creativity, and self-motivation. Evening, weekend, and extended hours may be required to support departmental needs and campus events.

QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Management, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong consideration will be given to candidates with ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible retail management experience.
  • Experience in retail operations, merchandising, inventory management, e-commerce, or financial reporting preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage the daily operations of the Oxford and Southaven campus bookstores.
  2. Oversee merchandise receiving, inventory management, and financial reporting activities.
  3. Develop and maintain merchandise pricing in accordance with bookstore policies and retail best practices.
  4. Supervise, train, and provide leadership to Bookstore Clerks.
  5. Support and attend a minimum of seven (7) events annually at the Heindl Center for Performing Arts.
  6. Develop and maintain a social media presence to promote bookstore products, services, and events.
  7. Establish, manage, and expand bookstore e-commerce operations and online sales initiatives.
  8. Coordinate the ordering, receiving, merchandising, and sale of inventory in accordance with bookstore policies and procedures.
  9. Plan and conduct an annual internal inventory audit of all resale merchandise.
  10. Collaborate with faculty and academic departments regarding textbook, digital course material, and e-book adoption and sales.
  11. Travel regularly between the Oxford and Southaven campus bookstores.
  12. Ensure compliance with all Northwest Mississippi Community College policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Union Services and Administration and/or the District Director of Auxiliary and Facility Services.

REQUIRED KNOWLDEGE, SKILLS ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, inventory control, and customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other business software applications.
  • Ability to analyze sales trends and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to travel regularly between campus locations.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and event needs.
  • Managerial, retail, finance, accounting, or related business experience required.
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience managing e-commerce platforms and online retail operations.
  • Experience with social media marketing and promotional campaigns.
  • Knowledge of textbook adoption processes and collegiate bookstore operations.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and point-of-sale software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:

  • Some evening, weekend, and extended hours are required to support departmental needs and campus events
  • May be required to assist at other college campuses
  • Communicate with others in person
  • Sit, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
  • Continuously walk, climb stairs, stand, bend, and squat
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds,
