Roles & responsibilities

We are recruiting an India/US qualified lawyer who can be effective member of the KGS OGC team, that complements the activities of Office of the General Counsel of KPMG LLP in the US. The role is focused on contracts for the delivery of commercial, technology and related services.

KPMG LLP is the US member of the international KPMG network of professional services firms and provides audit, tax and advisory services to a wide variety of clients. The US Office of General Counsel (OGC) is a very busy department providing support on engagement commercial issues across the whole firm. It plays a key role in the drafting and negotiation of engagement letters, technology contracts and other agreements related to the firm’s services and managing the firm’s risk. The team also supports client teams on engagement contract issues relating to proposals and tenders. A team of lawyers based in India has already been formed to support the work of the US OGC team. Now applications are encouraged for team member roles. The successful candidate is likely to be already providing similar contracting services as an in-house lawyer in another consultancy/professional services firm. The person appointed will be an effective team player, interested in the opportunity to join the legal team servicing the US member of one of the world’s largest networks of professional services providers

The recruit will complement the activities of the members of the onshore team by:

Contract specialist with experience in end-to-end review, drafting, negotiation and finalization of all types of contracts (both client and vendor contracts and related queries)
responding to GDPR/Data Privacy related queries for both client engagement and supplier contract
responding to miscellaneous engagement contract-related enquiries
liaising with and supporting other technical departments
helping with the development of policies on engagement contracting risk
strong proficiency in leveraging to build skills around using technology and GenAI tools

Educational qualifications

LLB or LLM

Work experience

The candidate must have 9 to 10 years minimum experience, with at least 8 years practicing as a commercial contract attorney and which includes supporting a US or UK domiciled company and that included working in English and across time zones

Mandatory technical & functional skills

Strong preference for experience working for a professional services/consulting/accounting firm and reviewing and negotiating client/vendor contracts analytical abilities with attention to details
Strong writing, communication and negotiation experience and skills in English ability to articulate points in writing and orally, clearly and succinctly
ability to persuade where necessary
capabilities in Outlook, Word and use of websites
willingness to acquire knowledge of OGC’s practices and processes
