As an Associate at WSP you will lead and manage the Drainage Team having to manage a sizeable Team of Drainage Engineers.

You will be working closely with UK business and with Team Leader – SWM Engineering in order to help out in resourcing needs and commercial side of the Projects. You will report to the Team Leader for Sustainable Water Management Engineering.

You will also be responsible for Technical assurance, winning work, manage and control Projects and Project budgets and helping out on recruitments. Additionally, you will work with the Principal Engineers on Team’s skill development and KPI’s.

You will be overseeing engineering design work and ensuring compliance with best practices and UK regulations.

Key Competencies / Mandatory skills

  • Design and delivery experience of 12+ years and should be able to demonstrate a proven working knowledge of the UK Water Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCDHW) in relation to Highway projects and Manual for Streets, Network Rail Standards, Local Authority Design Guidance, SuDS Manual and are well versed in the preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
  • The ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations and construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of and experience in drainage design, drainage strategies and flood risk assessments focused on the Water & Transport sector.
  • Successful track record of delivery of large detail design projects in the Drainage / Infrastructure / Transport sector within the context of a professional services provider
  • The ability to use or direct and check the use of relevant software including Micro Drainage, Info Drainage, Causeway Flow, Civils 3D and/or PDS.
  • Track record of senior technical experience/ Subject Matter Expert in at least one Highways / Roads / Drainage discipline.
  • Excellent communication, internal client handling, interpersonal skills and listening skills with the ability to influence and interact with people.
  • Comfortable leading internal engineering discussions and the experience and ability to understand, evaluate and explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical professionals.
  • A hard-working self-starter with initiative and ability to work within a team environment.
  • Understand own strengths and impact, adapting behaviors according to different situations and individuals.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and Open-minded and intellectually agile.
  • Act ethically with fairness, honesty and integrity.
  • You should have demonstrable experience of resource and project management.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and with time management and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • Educated to Bachelor / Master’s degree level in Water resource, Environment drainage related discipline within Civil Engineering.
  • Seasoned professional with at least 12 years’ experience in design, project management, and project delivery in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Chartered Engineer status of a recognised professional institution (e.g. ICE, CIWEM) is preferred.
