Associate Product Manager
Summary
Associate Product Manager at Kharon in London builds and maintains financial-risk data products, writes SQL to audit data quality, and translates sanctions regulations into engineering requirements.
About the Role
We are seeking an analytically minded and data-fluent Associate Product Manager (APM) to join our product team, supporting our Sanctioned Securities product. In this role, you will support our existing product suite while helping to scope and deliver new features. The ideal candidate is comfortable working hands-on with complex, messy data, has a foundational grasp of financial and regulatory concepts, and can eventually represent the product directly to clients. You don't need a background in finance or software engineering — you need to be genuinely comfortable digging into data and translating complexity into something clear.
- Data-Driven Ownership: Write and troubleshoot SQL (including multi-table joins across messy, disparate sources) to audit data quality, investigate edge cases, and champion product integrity.
- Regulatory Translation: Read and interpret sanctions legislation and regulatory text, and translate it into structured, logical criteria (inclusion/exclusion rules) that engineering can build against.
- Product Execution: Support existing products and drive the planning and development of new features.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication: Clearly communicate project progress to internal stakeholders, and, as you grow in the role, represent the product directly to clients — running demos, answering prospect questions, and translating technical concepts into plain language for non-technical audiences.
- Delivery & Momentum: Proactively anticipate and drive conversations to remove roadblocks to development work.
- Ruthless Prioritization: Balance competing roadmap items, manage diverse stakeholder demands, and make calculated trade-offs to keep development focused on high-impact deliverables.
- Quality Assurance: Assist in quality management and issue resolution to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Strong, hands-on SQL skills, including comfort with multi-table joins across messy, disparate data sources — deep ETL/pipeline or API engineering experience is not required.
- Ability to read dense text (e.g., regulatory or legal language) and distill it into clear, structured logic.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical or data-driven concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Mission Alignment: A demonstrated interest in international affairs, economics, or public policy, and a passion for applying technology to understand how the world works.
- Foundational Financial Literacy: A working understanding of basic financial concepts (e.g., what a bond tenor is, what a special purpose vehicle is) — no CFA or finance degree required, just enough grounding to make sense of how regulation maps to financial instruments.
- Product Experience: Prior experience with user interface, data, and/or media products, and an understanding of how to build experiences that convey compelling insights to users.
- Nontraditional Paths Welcome: We're open to candidates who haven't worked as a PM before — e.g., business analysts, or engineers looking to pivot into product
- Fully-sponsored private health insurance
- Pension plan with 3% employer contribution
- Annual leave plus bank holidays
