Job Purpose:
To enable the assessment and credit decisions relating to credit facilities and mortgage loans within agreed SLA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Analyze high-ticket self employed and rental backed proposals.
  • Manage underwriting team performance.
  • Maintain underwriting standards and prudent DOA usage.
  • Minimize credit risk through effective risk review.
  • Support underwriting flow through guidance to team members.
  • Ensure prompt CAS approvals within DOA.
  • Ensure SLA TAT compliance.
  • Review and resolve quality checks.
  • Participate in automation and efficiency initiatives.
  • Timely execution of tasks assigned by Line Manager.

Key Accountabilities:
Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure underwriting quality and portfolios remain within the bank’s risk appetite.
  • Prepare and present credit memos for escalation of high ticket self employed and rental backed mortgage cases, ensuring clear documentation of risks, deviations, mitigants, and recommendation.”
  • Improve TAT and operational efficiencies.
  • Create effective workflows for processing and tracking files.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain minimal error rates and audit observations.
  • Ensure verification and processes follow policy guidelines and SOPs.
  • Ensure all KYC and documentation comply with C2P2 prior to approval.
  • Monitor and report policy exceptions and loan booking trends.
  • Interpret policies and ensure proper credit analysis to improve asset quality.
  • Supervise and maintain tracking systems for periodic reports.
  • Support automation initiatives and system changes.
  • Lead the Credit Secured Products department to achieve assigned objectives through performance management, staff development, and motivation.

People Management

  • Define goals and KPIs; ensure implementation of FAB performance management process.
  • Implement Manager Scorecard responsibilities (engagement, performance, mandatory learning).
  • Act as role model and drive adherence to organizational values and ethics

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures:

  • Ensure effective implementation of Credit & Collections Personal Banking policies, procedures, and controls, meeting procedural and legislative requirements
  • within agreed TAT while delivering quality customer experience.
  • Credit Initiation Management
  • Manages Credit Initiation team for Mortgage Underwriting to support the bank’s risk tolerance and asset growth objectives
  • Ensures exception approvals beyond policy or scoring cut-offs are taken at the appropriate authority level with clear justifications
  • Enhances use of technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness

Business Support

  • Establishes strong working relationships with key stakeholders including collections, remedial management, product, and segment teams

Reporting

  • Ensure all department reports are prepared timely, accurately, and in line with Group requirements and quality standards

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Commerce or related discipline (preferred).
  • Minimum 6 years relevant banking experience including at least 3 years in a similar role.
  • Experience in team and process management.
