What impact and exposure opportunities come with this role We are seeking a skilled Data Platform Engineer with a strong focus on Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for enhancing the reliability, availability, and performance of our enterprise data platforms. You will leverage SRE best practices to streamline and automate operational tasks, ensuring seamless integration within our organization's ecosystem. You will be actively involved in software engineering practices for fast-moving agile projects using modern DevSecOps practices (e.g. GitHub, JFrog, Jira) and will learn about data platforms (e.g. Snowflake/Databricks, distributed query engines, business intelligence). What will you do as a Data Platform Engineer
- Operational Excellence: Provide operational production support (e.g. incident & emergency response management, availability management, change management, configuration management) and documentation for data infrastructure platforms.
- Automation: Bring on a mindset to identify opportunities to automate operational tasks, streamline deployment via CICD, monitoring and incident response processes, reducing manual intervention.
- Monitoring & Observability: Design and implement mechanisms to effectively gather metrics and metadata from monitoring systems (e.g. Datadog) and enterprise data platforms to provide recommendations for targeted improvements in performance tuning and fault-finding activities.
- Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance and implement enhancements to improve operational efficiencies (e.g. CPU utilization, latency) of data platforms.
- Securing by Design: Partner with internal security and infrastructure teams to ensure secure and robust architectural design for our data platforms.
- Collaboration: Become an excellent team player with a collaborative mindset; you will work directly with investment and technology professionals at all grades and across departments.
- 10 or more years of relevant technology experience preferably in financial risk services or asset management industries, and experience in leading software development teams.
- Hands-on engineering experience in the following:
- Programming languages (e.g. Python, Java, C# (.NET Core))
- SQL, and relational databases (e.g. Snowflake, Postgres, Oracle)
- Automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform)
- Scripting for automation (e.g. Bash, Powershell)
- Monitoring tools (e.g. Data dog, Splunk, Cloudwatch)
- Cloud technologies & IAC (e.g. AWS, EKS, S3, Kubernetes, Terraform, KMS)
- (Prefer) Distributed query technologies (e.g. Denodo, Presto/Trino, Starburst, Athena)
- (Optional) Data storage & EL/ETL processing (e.g. data lakes, data warehousing)
- Experience in application support practices such as incident management, capacity management, system and security administration, database and network management, with a strong experience on automating processes using scripting and automation tools (such as Python, Bash, etc) to enhance the efficiency of operational tasks.
- Willingness to learn with attention to detail, demonstrating a strong passion in technology and/or finance.
- Fair presentation skills, and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
- Good engagement with software engineers and guide hands-on development.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-departmental business and technical partners to contribute to the delivery of business outcomes.
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related discipline is advantageous.
