This role will be responsible for ensuring the security, resilience, and compliance of Te Tihi o Ruahine cloud environment and digital platforms. Acting as the lead kaitiaki for cloud security, the role provides strategic and technical leadership across Azure architecture, identity and access management, infrastructure security, threat detection, risk management, and secure solution design.

Key Responsibilities include:

· Azure Cloud Security & Architecture: Azure cloud architecture, secure solution design, cloud migration and transformation security considerations, Azure networking, infrastructure security, and secure system architecture.

· Identity & Access Management: Microsoft Entra ID, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), Conditional Access, identity governance, authentication, authorization, accounting (AAA), and secure access control practices.

· Security Operations & Threat Management: Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Sentinel, security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, and identification of threats, attacks, and vulnerabilities including malware, social engineering, and application-based attacks.

· Risk & Compliance: Azure Policy, governance and compliance controls, risk assessment, security architecture reviews, risk analysis, mitigation strategies, business continuity planning, and alignment with security standards and frameworks (such as NIST and ISO 27001.)

· Data Protection: Azure Key Vault, encryption, secrets management, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), and data protection best practices.

· Secure Engineering & Infrastructure: Secure DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Software as a Service (SaaS), firewalls, intrusion detection systems, endpoint security, secure network architectures, secure protocols, and implementation of security policies, procedures, and operational security controls.

· Security Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement: Development of security recommendations and roadmaps, stakeholder engagement, technical documentation, and supporting organisational security maturity and transformation initiatives.

Big bonus if you have had exposure to, or experience working with wider cloud-based data platforms and modern data engineering tools, including Coalesce, Eightwire, Fivetran, Snowflake and Power BI.

Te Tihi is a team of innovators, creators, supporters and leaders. You will be bringing your technical knowledge and skills to our data/digital team to actively contribute to Māori development, Whānau Ora and whānau “Reaching New Heights”.


The role can be fixed term or permanent by negotiation, Part-Time (0.8), Flexible working arrangements available - at a base minimum this will include 4 days over a fortnight, based in Palmerston North office.
