JD - Backbase Technical Lead (Backend + React) Role overview

We are hiring a hands-on Backbase Technical Lead to build Backbase backend services in Java/Spring Boot, deliver front-end features in React, and lead a small engineering team on live digital banking platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and customise Backbase backend services, extensions and integration services for retail and corporate banking journeys (accounts, payments, onboarding, entitlements).
• Build and review React front-end features for banking journeys that consume Backbase APIs; own the API contracts between front end and back end.
• Integrate Backbase with core banking and payment systems through REST APIs, message queues and an integration layer.
• Configure Backbase Identity (Keycloak-based) for authentication, authorisation and role-based access, including maker-checker approval flows.
• Lead a team of 3-8 developers: sprint planning, grooming, code reviews and technical mentoring.
• Own solution design: service boundaries, API contracts and integration patterns, aligned with Backbase best practices.
• Ensure reliability of live banking modules: monitoring, production support, incident root-cause analysis and SLA adherence.
• Work with the Backbase vendor and bank stakeholders on delivery.

Must-have skills

• 6+ years hands-on Backbase development: extensions, integration services, entitlements (a real build, not only a banks front end)
• React.js with JavaScript/TypeScript: has built real features (components, state management, consuming REST APIs)
• Java and Spring Boot microservices, RESTful API design
• Backbase Identity / Keycloak, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, role-based access control
• Messaging: Kafka, ActiveMQ or IBM MQ
• Core banking or payments integration (for example T24, Finacle, or an instant-payments system)
• Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or Jenkins), on Azure or AWS
• SQL databases
• Has led a team or module: code reviews, sprint planning, mentoring

Nice-to-have skills

• Camunda BPM / BPMN workflows, Saga pattern for distributed transactions
• Apache Camel or MuleSoft integration
• Resilience patterns: circuit breaker (Resilience4j), idempotency, event-driven design
• Observability: Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Kibana, OpsGenie
• OpenShift, Helm, GitOps
• Angular and Backbase frontend widgets (Backbases native web stack)
• React Native or mobile banking app exposure
• Corporate banking flows: bulk payments, multi-level approvals
• Backbase, Java or cloud certifications

Experience and education

• 6-12 years in software engineering, with at least 6 years on Backbase implementations for live banks
• At least one full Backbase rollout or major module delivered to production
• Bachelors degree in computer science, IT or a related field (BCA/BE/BTech/MCA)
