Backend / AI Product Engineer

Compensation: $36k – $60k • 0.1% – 0.5%

DealDog is building an AI-powered shopping platform that helps people discover great products and save money on everything they buy.

We’re looking for a strong backend/product engineer who can take ownership of major parts of the platform and work directly with the founder.

You’ll work on problems including:

Expanding our deal ingestion beyond Slickdeals to direct retailer integrations Building robust scraping/data-ingestion infrastructure and product matching Improving personalization and recommendation systems Developing price-history, alerts, and shopping intelligence features Supporting backend APIs and production infrastructure Prototyping new products such as browser-extension functionality Using AI coding tools such as Codex and Claude Code to move quickly while maintaining high engineering standards

Core stack / skills

Python FastAPI PostgreSQL REST APIs Web scraping / browser automation Playwright Git Testing Linux / production debugging

Experience with Supabase, recommendation systems, Chrome extensions, Docker, Redis, Swift/SwiftUI, or affiliate-commerce systems is a plus.

We care much more about practical engineering ability than credentials. You should be comfortable entering an existing codebase, diagnosing problems before changing things, shipping production-quality code, writing tests, and communicating clearly about tradeoffs and blockers.

This is a high-ownership role at an early-stage U.S. startup. You’ll have significant influence over the technical direction of the product and work on systems that directly affect users.

Candidates who pass the initial interview process will complete a short paid technical work trial based on a realistic backend/data problem.
