Posted Updated
Discussion

Summary

Builds and maintains Python backend services on AWS for a transportation-domain platform, centered on EDI/ANSI X12 integrations — parsing, validating, and mapping messages — plus event-driven services, APIs, and troubleshooting production integration issues.

We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer to join our team and work on a transportation-domain platform with a strong focus on EDI integrations.

What you will do:
Develop and maintain backend services in Python.
Build and support integrations with external systems and partners.
Work with EDI/X12 messages, mappings, validation, and processing.
Develop asynchronous and event-driven services.
Work with AWS-based infrastructure and services.
Design and maintain APIs and integrations.
Troubleshoot integration and production issues.
Work closely with the rest of the engineering team on architecture and implementation.

Requirements:
Strong commercial experience with Python.
Experience with AWS.
Experience with backend APIs and system integrations.
Experience with message-driven/event-driven architecture.
Experience with relational databases.
Solid understanding of distributed backend systems.
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

EDI / X12:
Hands-on experience with EDI / ANSI X12 is highly important for this position.
Transportation-domain experience is preferred, particularly:
X12 214 — Transportation Carrier Shipment Status.
X12 210 — Motor Carrier Freight Details and Invoice.

Strong X12 experience from other industries is also highly relevant. For example:
Retail / supply chain: 850, 856, 810
Healthcare: 837, 835, 270/271
Other EDI-heavy domains

We are looking primarily for someone who understands X12/EDI concepts and has practical experience with message structures, parsing, validation, mapping, acknowledgments, trading-partner differences, and integration troubleshooting. Direct experience with 210/214 is a strong advantage, but solid X12 experience in another domain is transferable.

Nice to have:
NATS or another message bus; NATS preferred.
Transportation or logistics domain experience.
Direct experience with X12 210/214.
Rust.
Frontend/UI development experience.
