We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join an AI-powered platform that enables virtual workers to collaborate alongside human teams, helping businesses automate, delegate, and scale operational workflows through intelligent AI agents integrated into real business processes. In this role, you will build and scale the backend systems that power the platform, designing and maintaining APIs, backend services, data models, integrations, and asynchronous processes to ensure reliability, security, and scalability. Working closely with frontend, product, and AI engineering teams, you will deliver production-ready solutions and contribute to the evolution of a fast-growing AI product. We are looking for someone who can quickly understand an existing product and codebase, integrate into the team with minimal ramp-up time, and make an immediate impact.

Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs that power the product.
- Model and evolve our database with safe, production-grade migrations.
- Build and operate background jobs, queues, scheduled work, and asynchronous processes.
- Integrate third-party services and communication channels, including messaging, email, voice, and webhooks.
- Build secure, multi-tenant systems, including authentication, permissions, and data isolation.
- Ensure reliability, observability, performance, and clean failure handling in production.
- Work efficiently with AI development tools, including Claude Code, to accelerate delivery.
- Collaborate with frontend, product, and AI engineering to ship features end-to-end.
- Write maintainable, type-safe, well-structured backend code.
- 4+ years building production backend services with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Strong API design experience, especially REST, with a modern Node framework.
- Solid relational database skills with PostgreSQL, an ORM such as Prisma, and safe migration practices.
- Experience with background jobs, queues, Redis, BullMQ, or similar asynchronous processing tools.
- Experience building multi-tenant SaaS systems with authentication, permissions, and tenant isolation.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs and handling webhooks reliably.
- Comfortable with Docker and deploying or operating production services.
- Experience working with AI coding tools - Claude Code is required.
- Ability to ramp up very quickly with limited onboarding and start contributing fast.
- Strong ownership and collaboration in a fast-moving remote startup environment.
- Experience with messaging or communication channels such as WhatsApp, email, telephony, or voice.
- Observability and on-call experience, including logging, monitoring, and error tracking.
- Experience scaling data-heavy or high-throughput systems.
- Familiarity with vector search or pgvector.
- Experience with payments, billing, or usage metering.
- Exposure to AI, LLM-adjacent infrastructure, or agent-based products.
