We are currently partnering with a leading organisation undergoing a major digital transformation programme to recruit an experienced Senior Back-End Developer on a contract basis.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-profile project focused on enhancing customer experience and operational efficiency through innovative web and mobile solutions. You'll play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side architecture that powers a large-scale digital ecosystem used by thousands of customers daily.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Back-End Developer, you will be responsible for building scalable, secure, and high-performing back-end services, APIs, and integrations. Working closely with architects, developers, and programme stakeholders, you'll help deliver robust solutions that support a modern digital platform.
This role would suit someone who thrives in complex technical environments and enjoys taking ownership of backend architecture, performance, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain server-side applications and microservices using Node.js.
- Build and manage secure, scalable APIs (REST and/or GraphQL) for web and mobile applications.
- Integrate solutions with third-party platforms, legacy systems, and internal services.
- Design and optimise database structures across SQL and NoSQL technologies.
- Troubleshoot production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions.
- Ensure backend services meet security, performance, and reliability standards.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architects to align solutions with cloud, security, and governance frameworks.
- Provide technical input during sprint planning, backlog refinement, and estimation sessions.
- Support programme delivery by managing technical dependencies and providing visibility on development progress.
Required Experience
- 5+ years' experience in Back-End Development within enterprise or complex technology environments.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Node.js and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Experience developing and maintaining RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.
- Strong database experience including technologies such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
- Knowledge of caching solutions such as Redis.
- Experience working with cloud technologies, ideally Microsoft Azure.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, testing, and code quality standards.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with additional programming languages such as Python or Go.
- Previous experience working on large-scale digital transformation programmes.
