Backend Engineer / Procedural 3d Developer
Description
A fast-growing startup is building tools that let people explore and furnish digital versions of their actual homes, bringing together residential data, 3 D spaces, furniture catalogs, and interactive design.
About the roleBuild backend systems that transform product and residential information into structured data and accurate 3 D assets. Your initial focus is furniture ingestion, with scope to contribute to digital home creation and other 3 D workflows as priorities evolve. Work alongside the company’s product and 3 D domain experts.
What you will do- Build server-side services, APIs, and automated workflows that ingest, normalize, enrich, and publish product and residential information.
- Design databases and relationships for products, residential spaces, dimensions, source evidence, and generated assets.
- Develop and integrate programmatic 3 D workflows, including procedural modeling, asset processing, and generation services.
- Implement validation for scale, dimensions, geometry, and textures, with inspectable failures and correction paths.
- Make pipelines repeatable and observable through testing, retries, logging, and practical monitoring of quality, speed, and cost.
- Strong backend fundamentals: server-side code, API development and integration, database design and architecture, and workflow automation.
- Hands-on programmatic 3 D experience is required: creating or manipulating 3 D geometry and assets through code. Deep procedural modeling experience is strongly preferred; lighter programmatic experience can qualify alongside strong backend skills.
- Relevant 3 D work could include Blender scripting, Unity, game development, procedural geometry, or automated model and asset processing.
- Ability to debug across services and data flows. Python, Type Script/Node.js, SQL, and Blender are relevant examples; equivalent experience is welcome.
This is an AI-first team. Demonstrate how you already use coding agents and AI tools to research, build, debug, test, and document work. The team measures useful output, quality, and reliability; you remain accountable for reviewing and maintaining what you ship. Adaptability matters more than familiarity with a particular language. Bring curiosity, initiative, and startup ownership: understand the objective, identify useful next steps, propose solutions, and follow through without waiting for detailed instructions. Fluent professional English, spoken and written, is required for clear technical discussion and collaboration.
Experience and working arrangement- Mid-level individual contributor with approximately 3–8 years of professional experience.
- Established engineering fundamentals, independent execution, and practical AI fluency.
- Demonstrated capability and ownership matter more than years alone.
- Full-time, ongoing role. Work as closely as practical to New York business hours.
