In this Back End Developer role, you will diagnose and fix live production issues in Java-based systems, ensuring stable, well-tested changes. You’ll work with 2nd Line Operations, QA, and feature teams to triage incidents and deploy safe hotfixes, contributing to ongoing service improvements. You’ll analyze logs and metrics to uncover root causes and document resolutions for future reliability. This role sits within Methods’ Capabilities and IT Cloud teams, supporting public-sector projects and broader digital transformation.

- Investigate and resolve live defects and production incidents within SLAs
- Analyze logs, metrics, and traces to identify root causes of complex issues
- Design, develop, and deploy stable fixes using Java and related frameworks
- Collaborate with AMS, QA, and Feature Teams to triage and prioritise defects
- Implement hotfixes and patches in production following change management
- Support post-incident reviews and contribute to preventative actions and service improvements
- Maintain documentation of incident investigations, resolutions, and code changes
- Monitor system health using observability and alerting tools
- Contribute to improving reliability and maintainability of backend systems
- Provide technical expertise and mentoring for diagnosing and resolving backend issues
- Proven experience as a Back-End Developer with strong Java focus
- Experience supporting live production environments and resolving incidents
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills
- Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices, and event-driven systems
- Hands-on experience with Postgres/SQL, Active MQ, and Liquibase
- Experience with JUnit, Mockito, and Wiremock for testing
- Proficiency with Git and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS preferred)
- Knowledge of Azure services (Function Apps, Azure DevOps, monitoring tools)
- Ability to work in fast-paced agile or DevOps environments
