Backend Software Engineer (JavaKotlin)

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Backend Software Engineer with Java/Kotlin for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Argentima. Our client is one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing job sites.

You will join an engineering team focused on high-priority, product-led initiatives while also taking ownership of important deferred engineering work, including compliance and maintenance, cost optimization, observability, experiment cleanup, and operational tooling. Your work will help ensure that the Indeed Question Platform and related systems remain reliable, well-maintained, and continuously improved, while providing effective tooling to support adoption and troubleshooting. This is a strictly backend-focused role, and candidates with a primarily frontend-oriented background are not a fit. The role requires coverage of the US Central Time (CST) zone.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Proficiency with NoSQL databases, particularly MongoDB Atlas.
• Proficiency with relational databases, particularly Aurora MySQL on AWS.
• Experience building cloud-native distributed systems on AWS.
• Experience with the Spring Boot framework.
• Experience developing APIs with GraphQL using Netflix DGS.
• Experience building and operating large-scale, high-performance, and resilient systems on AWS.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English, with the ability to work effectively across teams.

Will be a plus

• Experience developing event-driven systems, ideally with Apache Kafka and/or Amazon SQS.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding.
• Experience with Terraform.
• Experience building microservices.
• Experience developing APIs with gRPC and REST.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver important deferred engineering work, including compliance and maintenance, cost optimization, observability, experiment cleanup, and operational tooling.
• Design, build, and maintain scalable, performant, and reliable software systems.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design, validating solutions through data and experimentation where appropriate.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners, including software engineers, product managers, data scientists, and designers.
• Partner with the Product Manager and fellow engineers to clarify requirements and contribute to technical design, with a primary focus on coding, testing, and documentation.
