The Backup Management Specialist is responsible for the ongoing administration, monitoring, and upgrading of backup and disaster recovery systems for WorkSmart’s clients. This position focuses exclusively on the management and optimization of existing backup solutions, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance.

Requirements
- 3+ years’ experience in backup administration, disaster recovery, or IT support (MSP experience preferred)
- Hands-on expertise with StorageCraft, Veeam, Synology NAS, Azure Backup, Datto, Avepoint and Wasabi object storage
- Strong understanding of backup methodologies (full, incremental, differential), retention policies, and replication strategies
- Experience with on-prem, cloud and hybrid backup architectures
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements for data protection
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within internal teams
Key Responsibilities
Backup Operations & Administration
Monitor and manage backup jobs across StorageCraft, Veeam, Synology, Azure, Datto, AVepoint and Wasabi platforms
Troubleshoot backup failures and ensure successful completion of scheduled backups
Perform regular backup verification and restoration tests to validate data integrity
Maintain and optimize backup schedules, retention policies, and off-site replication strategies
Manage storage repositories, including cloud and on-premises devices
System Upgrades & Maintenance
Plan and execute upgrades for backup software, hardware, and storage platforms
Apply patches and updates to ensure systems remain secure and up-to-date
Document upgrade procedures and maintain records of system changes
Compliance & Security
Ensure backup solutions meet regulatory and industry standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOC2)
Implement and maintain encryption, access controls, and data protection measures
Monitor for emerging threats and vulnerabilities in backup environments
Reporting & Documentation
Generate reports on backup status, storage utilization, and recovery metrics for internal stakeholders
Maintain thorough documentation of backup configurations, procedures, and system environments

Preferred Qualifications
Certifications: Any certifications related to Veeam, StorageCraft, Datto, Avepoint or Azure are a plus
