Blockchain Software Engineer – Trading Technology
Summary
A hands-on blockchain engineer joins a private trading firm's small DeFi team, building and improving automated trading systems, researching DeFi platforms and smart contracts, and shipping across multiple blockchain networks. Core stack: C++, Python, TypeScript, or Rust, plus blockchain languages like Solidity, Go, Move, or Yul on EVM-style networks.
The Opportunity
We're helping a private, fast-growing trading firm find a talented software engineer to join their blockchain team. The company buys and sells financial products in global markets, and uses technology to trade quickly and safely.
This role is about building the tools and systems that let the firm explore and use decentralised finance (DeFi) — a newer part of the crypto world where deals happen automatically through code, rather than through a bank or broker.
You'll be joining a small, close-knit team of engineers, mathematicians, and traders. It's a hands-on role: you won't just be writing code, you'll be helping shape how the firm trades in this space.
What You'll Be Doing
- Helping build and improve the software and systems the firm uses to trade automatically
- Studying how different DeFi platforms work, using real market data, to find new opportunities
- Trying out new blockchain tools and features before most people have heard of them
- Looking into the building blocks (smart contracts) that DeFi platforms are built on
- Keeping across the DeFi world — new platforms, new updates, what's changing
- Getting projects live and working on more than one blockchain network
What You'll Need
- A degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a similar subject
- Genuine hands-on experience with web3 and crypto — this isn't a role to learn the basics on the job
- A strong understanding of how blockchain networks are built, especially Ethereum-style (EVM) networks or similar
- Confident coding skills in at least two of: C++, Python, TypeScript, Rust (bonus if you also know Solidity)
- Experience with blockchain-specific coding languages such as Go, Rust, Solidity, Move, or Yul
- Some experience reviewing smart contracts for security issues, and a genuine curiosity about how blockchain technology works under the hood
- A track record of taking a project from idea to something real and working, at scale
- Fluent, confident English
Nice to Have
- Experience analysing blockchain data or working across different DeFi platforms
- Specialist knowledge of a particular blockchain platform
- Previous experience in trading, markets, or a fast-paced quantitative environment
- Comfortable with TypeScript and other tools used in the web3 world
Location
This role will be based in one of several major international hubs. Please note that candidates must already hold the legal right to work in that location — sponsorship is not available, so this role is only open to candidates already based in, or with the right to work in, Europe, the UK, the US, or Asia without visa support.
