About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join a highly classified Federal Government agency in Canberra.
Working within the Product Delivery Directorate, you will be responsible for analysing business needs, processes and requirements and helping to identify practical improvements to systems and ways of working.
You will work closely with a range of stakeholders including business users, Project Managers, System Architects and Development teams to understand requirements and support the successful delivery of new and improved products and systems.
The role will suit a Business Analyst who is comfortable working through complex problems, engaging with stakeholders and translating business needs into clear and achievable requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and analyse business processes, functions, systems, information and data.
  • Work with business stakeholders to understand their needs, challenges and objectives.
  • Identify business problems, opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Gather, analyse and document business and system requirements.
  • Develop clear requirements, specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, System Architects, Developers and other technical teams.
  • Ensure requirements are clearly understood and aligned with business and customer needs.
  • Support the identification of opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs and deliver business benefits.
  • Facilitate discussions and workshops with stakeholders to gather and validate requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across different levels of the organisation.
  • Adapt Business Analysis approaches depending on the project, using Agile, iterative or traditional methods where appropriate.
  • Contribute to improving Business Analysis processes, standards and practices across the organisation.


About You We are looking for a Business Analyst who can work confidently in a complex and sometimes ambiguous environment and is comfortable taking a broader view of business problems.
You will ideally have:

  • Proven experience working as a Business Analyst across complex projects or programs.
  • Strong experience in requirements gathering, analysis and documentation.
  • Experience analysing business processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with both business and technical teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing requirements, specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Experience working within Agile and/or traditional project environments.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work with limited direction when required.
  • Federal Government, Defence or other highly regulated environment experience will be highly regarded.
