Business Analyst

Who we are and what we do

About Hachette UK

Hachette UK is a creative powerhouse and the UK's second largest book publishing group. Our mission is to make it easy for everyone to discover new worlds of ideas, learning, entertainment and opportunity.

We're made up of 10 autonomous publishing divisions and over 60 imprints with a rich and diverse history and an incredible range of authors. We're also the market leader in e-books and publish a range of bestsellers in audio format, the fastest growing part of our business.

Our award-winning adult publishing divisions are Little, Brown, which won Publisher of the Year at the 2026 British Book Awards; Orion (2021 Publisher of the Year Award Winner); John Murray Press; Hodder & Stoughton; Headline; Octopus, and Bookouture. They publish fiction and non-fiction in digital, audio and print format, from the world's best and most diverse authors, including Brit Bennett, Candice Carty-Williams, Martina Cole, Michael Connelly, John Grisham, Stephen King, Stieg Larsson, Nelson Mandela, Stephenie Meyer, Maggie O'Farrell, Delia Owens, Ian Rankin, J.K. Rowling, Colson Whitehead, and Malala Yousafzai. Hachette Children's Group publishes a wide and vibrant range of books for children across all age ranges, while Hachette Learning is a market leader in resources for both primary and secondary schools.

Hachette UK is part of Hachette Livre, the world's third largest trade and educational publisher. As well as our headquarters in Carmelite House, London, and our state-of-the-art book distribution centre in Didcot, Oxfordshire, we have recently opened five new offices in Manchester, Bristol, Sheffield, Newcastle, and Edinburgh. The UK region also includes offices in Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, the Caribbean, and Ireland.

It's an exciting time to join our business because the publishing market continues to grow and thrive. The UK remains the largest exporter of physical books in the world and book adaptations for film and TV are the foundation of the UK's creative industries.

What you'll be doing

We are looking for a Business Analyst to join our IT PMO team and support the delivery of technology and business change projects across Hachette UK.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, asking the right questions, bringing structure to complex problems and helping teams turn business needs into clear, practical solutions.

As a Business Analyst, you will work closely with stakeholders, project managers, technology teams and suppliers to understand business problems, document requirements, map processes and support successful project delivery. You will be involved across the project lifecycle, from early feasibility and discovery through to planning, delivery, UAT preparation, business readiness and handover.

In this role, you will:

  • Work with stakeholders to understand business needs, problems, opportunities and desired outcomes.
  • Gather, document and manage business, functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and analysis sessions with business and technical teams.
  • Map current and future business processes, identifying gaps, impacts and opportunities for improvement.
  • Produce clear and structured documentation, including requirements catalogues, process maps, context diagrams, data flow diagrams and supporting analysis.
  • Support project data analysis activities where required, including helping to understand business data needs, data sources, data mapping, data quality issues and data-related process impacts.
  • Support project managers and delivery teams with planning, prioritisation, risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies and decision-making.
  • Help ensure requirements remain clear, agreed, prioritised and traceable throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support UAT planning by ensuring agreed requirements are clear, traceable and available to inform business test scenarios and acceptance criteria.
  • Support business readiness, communications, training and handover activity where required.
  • Contribute to BA and IT PMO standards, templates and ways of working.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is curious, organised and confident working with a range of stakeholders. You will enjoy understanding how things work, getting into the detail where needed, and helping teams make sense of business problems, requirements, processes and change impacts.

You will bring:

  • Experience working as a Business Analyst, or in a role involving business analysis activity.
  • Experience gathering, documenting and managing business requirements.
  • Experience mapping business processes and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Experience working with stakeholders across different teams or departments.
  • Experience supporting technology, systems or business change projects.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work across both business and technical teams.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce clear documentation.
  • A proactive, practical and collaborative approach.

It would be helpful if you also have:

  • Experience working in an IT PMO, technology delivery or project environment.
  • Experience supporting projects across the full lifecycle, from discovery through to implementation and closure.
  • Experience with tools such as Microsoft Office, Visio, Miro, Monday.com, SharePoint or similar.
  • Experience supporting UAT preparation, business readiness, training or handover activity.
  • Experience or awareness of projects involving data migration, data mapping, data consolidation, data quality analysis or data/reporting changes.
  • Awareness of project governance, RAAIDD / RAID, RACI, benefits, risks and change control.
  • Familiarity with BPMN, user stories, acceptance criteria, data flows or systems analysis techniques.

You do not need to know everything from day one, but you should be curious, structured and willing to learn. You will be comfortable asking questions, constructively challenging assumptions and helping people clarify what they really need.
