Business Development Director (Pharma)

About Business Development at Clinigen:

Clinigen is a rapidly growing global specialty pharmaceutical and services company with a unique combination of businesses. Our divisions operate in a complex global regulatory environment and ensure that vital medicines are delivered securely on time and wherever they are needed in the world.

We are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and results-driven Business Development Director with a razor-focused hunter mindset and a proven ability to proactively identify, target, and develop new business opportunities. This individual will drive business development and client relations activities across Clinigen, creating and expanding strategic partnerships that fuel growth.

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • 8+ years' experience working within the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry
  • 5+ years of sales experience
  • Degree in Business, Marketing, Communication or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Demonstrate record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales quotas, driven primarily by self-sourced, new business "hunting" activity rather than inherited or inbound accounts
  • True hunter mentality with an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to business development in a pharma services environment — self-driven, competitive, resilient in the face of rejection, and relentlessly focused on identifying and closing new business, with the ability to operate independently
  • Thorough understanding of Clinical Supplies, Marketing, Sales and Business Development principles and processes
  • Ability to target, sell, and develop business at multiple levels within large, mid-sized and emerging pharma organizations

What your role at Clinigen looks like:

  • Demonstrate a relentless, hunter-oriented approach to new business origination within the pharma services space, treating pipeline generation as a daily discipline rather than a periodic activity and taking full ownership for self-sourcing net-new logos across large, mid-sized and emerging pharma and biotech accounts.
  • Develop and execute business development strategy and approach for target and existing clients, in line with divisional financial goals, and focus on achieving individual sales, revenue, gross profit and growth targets agreed with the relevant SVP, VP or delegate.
  • Aggressively utilize network, referrals, cold-calling and other proactive prospecting methods to hunt down, identify and generate new business leads, consistently building and maintaining a robust, self-generated opportunity pipeline in Salesforce/CRM for both new and existing opportunities.
  • Effectively identify, profile and research potential clients drawing on industry news, trends and competitor activity to formulate a target list with associated account/action plans and strategic priorities.
  • Understand clients' development strategies and translate these into added-value solutions.
  • Utilize network, referrals, cold-calling and other prospecting methods to identify and generate new business leads and maintain Salesforce/CRM and the opportunity pipeline for both new and existing opportunities.
  • Deliver capability and solutions-based presentations, coordinating and attending sales meetings with clients and prospects to communicate full-service offerings and differentiators.
  • Negotiate contracts, budgets and terms with clients (including CDAs/MSAs), ensuring profitability is maximized.
  • Collaborate with other senior members of the Clinigen team to extend networks and identify client contact opportunities, providing transparency to the broader team on resource implications of leads progressing through the BD process.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with all clients through effective personal networking, positioning Clinigen as each client's partner of choice through the highest standards of service and ethical solutions.

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • Entrepreneurial and innovative approach to business development, with the ability to operate independently
  • Ability to actively pursue assignments, evaluate situations, adapt to change and make timely decisions
  • Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels, internally and externally, to influence others and foster cooperation.
