Discussion

Help grow the workshops that keep New Zealand moving.

We’re looking for a Christchurch-based Business Development Manager to drive equipment sales and market growth across the South Island.

This is a hands-on, commercially focused role where you’ll manage your territory, build strong customer relationships and identify new opportunities across dealerships, workshops, tyre businesses, fleet operators and trade customers. You’ll work closely with our branch network, suppliers, installers and internal teams to develop practical equipment solutions that meet customer needs.

You’ll lead opportunities from the initial customer conversation through to proposal, negotiation, delivery coordination and customer handover. You’ll also demonstrate equipment, explain product benefits and support customers with safe and correct equipment use.

What you’ll do:

  • Own and execute the South Island territory plan, sales pipeline and forecast.
  • Identify, pursue and convert new business opportunities across direct and trade channels.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Lead customer proposals, presentations and commercial negotiations.
  • Demonstrate workshop equipment and clearly explain its features, applications and benefits.
  • Coordinate with branch teams, suppliers, installers and service partners to deliver effective customer solutions.
  • Provide safe customer handovers, product guidance and basic first-line support.
  • Use sales information, customer feedback and market insights to identify growth opportunities.
  • Support branch and sales teams through joint customer calls, product demonstrations and practical learning.
  • Represent Precision Equipment at customer visits, trade events and promotional activities.

What you’ll bring:

  • At least seven years’ experience in business development, technical sales, key account management or territory leadership.
  • Proven experience managing a regional sales plan, pipeline, forecast and commercial outcomes.
  • Strong consultative selling, negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience leading complex or high-value opportunities through to implementation.
  • Confidence working with customers, suppliers, installers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial judgement, problem-solving ability and customer focus.
  • The ability to work autonomously and effectively manage a busy regional territory.
  • Mechanical aptitude or a genuine interest in automotive technology and workshop equipment.
  • Experience within automotive workshops, dealerships, tyre businesses, fleet operations or related industrial equipment would be an advantage.
  • A current full driver licence and willingness to travel regularly across the South Island, including overnight stays

Why Join Us?

  • Take ownership of an exciting South Island territory with genuine growth opportunities.
  • Join an established business supported by a strong branch network and specialist national team.
  • Work with practical, high-quality workshop equipment and solutions.
  • Receive the tools required to succeed, including a company vehicle, laptop and phone.
  • Build your product and technical capability through supplier resources and hands-on learning.
  • Enjoy the opportunity to shape customer solutions and make a visible impact on business growth.
