Business Intelligence Specialist - Power BI/ETL

About the Role :

We are looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Specialist to develop and maintain business intelligence solutions, data models, reports and interactive dashboards.

The role involves working closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, transform data into meaningful insights and improve organisational decision-making through data-driven solutions.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Power BI, DAX, SQL, data modelling and reporting automation, along with the ability to mentor and guide team members.

Key Responsibilities :

- Design and develop relational databases and physical data models based on business and application requirements.

- Gather reporting requirements from different business departments and translate them into self-service reports and dashboards using Microsoft Power BI.

- Develop, maintain and optimise interactive dashboards, analytical reports and data visualisations.

- Write advanced DAX calculations, measures and queries to support complex reporting requirements.

- Connect multiple data sources, extract, clean, transform and consolidate data for business intelligence solutions.

- Automate and streamline reporting processes to improve efficiency and enable deeper business analysis.

- Work with SQL/MySQL databases to retrieve, analyse and manage business data.

- Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) and ensure appropriate data access and application security.

- Collaborate with system architects, software developers, database administrators and business stakeholders to improve reporting capabilities.

- Develop and implement data modelling, data design, data transportation and ETL/ELT strategies.

- Create and test data models, database structures and metadata tables to improve performance and operational efficiency.

- Identify opportunities to improve data accuracy, reporting quality and business processes.

- Prepare technical documentation, training materials and conduct training sessions for users and team members.

- Mentor and provide day-to-day technical guidance to team members while remaining hands-on with BI development.

Required Skills & Qualifications :

- 6 - 8 years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, BI Development or related roles.

- Strong hands-on experience in Microsoft Power BI, including report and dashboard development.

- Advanced knowledge of DAX for calculations, measures and analytical reporting.

- Strong proficiency in SQL/MySQL and database management principles.

- Experience in data modelling, data transformation and integrating multiple data sources.

- Knowledge of Power BI Row-Level Security (RLS) and application security models.

- Experience in reporting automation and self-service analytics solutions.

- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data warehouse concepts.

- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and data interpretation abilities.

- Strong communication, stakeholder management and mentoring skills.

Good to Have :

- Knowledge of Python and/or R for data analysis and visualization.

- Experience with data warehouse development and operational data stores.

- Understanding of statistical techniques such as correlation and regression analysis.

- Experience working with metadata management and enterprise data architecture.

Education :

- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related discipline.

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Computer Science or Information Systems preferred.
