Calibration Engineer (m/w/d)

Open 21d

Summary

Calibrate and validate sensors (cameras, LiDAR, radar) for autonomous robotic platforms to ensure precise perception in real-world environments using ROS/ROS2 and calibration toolchains.

  • Work in an international, agile team creating the future of autonomous systems
  • Grow your career in a expanding and ambitious engineering team
  • Build innovative products using state-of-the-art technologies in AI, robotics, and autonomy
  • Benefit from a steep learning curve and continuous development
  • Enjoy team events and a strong, collaborative culture
Join a multidisciplinary robotics team developing advanced autonomous systems where perception accuracy is mission-critical. As a Calibration Engineer, you will own the calibration and validation of the sensor suite used across our robotic platforms, ensuring reliable and precise perception performance in real-world environments.

Working closely with differents teams, you will improve calibration workflows, optimize sensor performance, and contribute to the integration of high-quality perception systems.

Your responsibilities :
  • Develop, validate, and maintain calibration procedures for multi-sensor robotic platforms.
  • Calibrate and optimize cameras, LiDARs, radars, and other perception sensors to ensure accurate system performance.
  • Analyze and correct camera intrinsic and extrinsic parameters, including lens distortion models and optical characteristics.
  • Investigate calibration-related issues and improve sensor accuracy, robustness, and repeatability.
  • Work closely with perception, robotics, and hardware engineers to integrate calibrated sensor systems into production platforms.
  • Develop tools and processes to automate calibration and verification workflows where possible.
  • Support system testing and validation both in the lab and during field deployments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in sensor integration, perception quality, and overall platform performance.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2–3+ years of hands-on experience in sensor calibration for robotics, autonomous systems, automotive, industrial automation, or similar high-precision environments.
  • Knowledge of ROS/ROS2 or robotics software ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Camera calibration and lens distortion models
    • Optical systems and imaging principles
    • Multi-sensor calibration (camera, LiDAR, radar)
    • Sensor intrinsic and extrinsic calibration
  • Experience working with robotic or mechatronic systems.
  • Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and a precision-oriented mindset.
  • Comfortable collaborating across software, perception, and hardware teams.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Experience with autonomous robots, drones, or mobile robotic platforms.
  • Background in the automotive, semiconductor, or industrial automation sectors.
  • Experience with perception systems and sensor fusion.
  • Experience with Counter-UAS or defense-related autonomous systems.
  • Familiarity with computer vision libraries such as OpenCV and calibration toolchains.
  • Builder mentality: you ship working solutions, not theoretical concepts
  • Hands-on ownership: you proactively solve problems, even outside your direct scope
  • Field-driven mindset: you care about what survives real operations, not “lab perfect”
  • High quality bar: you aim for reliability, determinism, and clarity in your engineering
  • Startup drive: you execute fast despite ambiguity, and adapt quickly
  • Mission alignment: genuine motivation to work on defense-relevant, safety-critical robotics
  • Nationality of a NATO member nation or close ally is required
