Qualifications:

  • MDHHS Peer Recovery Coach Requirements:

    • The PRC must have two continuous years in recovery from addiction(s) with experience in navigating treatment services and/or prevention

  • Share their recovery story as a tool in helping others

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  • Experience receiving treatment either in a private or publicly funded treatment and recovery services for addiction

  • Be employed by a licensed Substance Use Disorder Treatment Organization, a Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP), a Community Mental Health Services Program, or another organization under contract to one or more of the forgoing organizations that provides substance abuse treatment and/or recovery support services.

    • Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) Peer Recovery Coach Certification Training and/or Michigan Department Health Human Services Peer Recovery Coach Certification Training

  • Must be a Certified Recovery Coach or secure certification within six (6) months of hire. (Those that are in recovery are encouraged to apply or will accept individuals in recovery status)

  • Primary diagnosis of a mental health condition
  • Have a strong personal knowledge of what it is like to have first-hand lived experience with a mental health condition that has caused a substantial life disruption
  • Has been a recipient of mental health treatment and/or services for at least one year, with a substantial life disruption due to their mental health condition
  • Have personal experience in navigating complex mental health treatment services
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license
  • Must possess valid proof of auto insurance

Job Duties:

Direct services may include outreach and engagement, linkage to community supports, transportation, in-home services, group facilitation and advocacy. Responsible for representing Easterseals, developing and maintaining community partnerships and marketing substance use services in the community through the process of formal presentations and informal check-ins with community partners. Promotes and participates in activities that enhance consumer recovery such as community inclusion activities, advocacy and anti-stigma, education opportunities, etc. Attends team meetings and receives assignments from supervisor, team leader or designee. Supports team and staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery; lending their unique insight into mental illness or dual diagnosis and what makes recovery possible. Advocates client decision-making and assists consumers in determining goals and objectives that will help reach recovery. May assist consumers in creating relapse prevention strategies.
