As a CHIEF OF STAFF, you will direct and supervise a staff that may consist of varied Asylum Officers, Management and Program Analysts, Mission Support staff, and other administrative personnel who are responsible for performing work related to operational processes and organizational effectiveness.
Directing activities of subordinate managers, supervisors and expert staff responsible for key operational and mission support functions and analysis of organizational performance.
Maintaining knowledge of laws, policies, and regulations of administrative field sufficient to apply new theories and developments to problems.
Employing a wide range of methods for the assessment and improvement of complex programs, processes and systems.
Leading the coordination of labor relations issues locally, with frequent collaboration with the USCIS Labor and Employee Relations Program.
Leading, developing, and managing a high performing, diverse workforce, and ensuring employment practices are administered in a fair and equitable manner.
Providing authoritative guidance in the resolution of complex problems or issues impacting the Asylum program and other major USCIS programs.

Residency Requirement: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This residency requirement states that candidates must have, for three of the last five years immediately prior to applying for this position; (1) resided in the United States; OR (2) worked for the United States Government as an employee overseas in a Federal or Military capacity, OR (3) been a dependent of a U.S. Federal or Military employee serving overseas. Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period: You may be required to serve a twelve-month probationary period upon appointment to this position. You may also be required to complete an appropriate supervisory training course within one year of assignment to this position.
