Civil Engineer – Site Design & Drafting
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Civil Engineer – Site Design & Drafting based in United States.
This remote role is ideal for a civil engineering professional with strong expertise in site design, drafting, and U.S. construction practices.
You will contribute to real estate development projects spanning self-storage, industrial, and multifamily properties from planning through construction.
The position combines technical civil design with drafting, stormwater and utility planning, earthwork calculations, estimating, and project coordination.
You will translate surveys and topographic information into detailed, construction-ready plans that meet regulatory and project requirements.
The role also provides opportunities to apply value-engineering principles and help optimize site layouts, costs, and construction outcomes.
Working across multiple active projects, you will collaborate with contractors, project teams, and other stakeholders in a fast-moving development environment.
This is a strong opportunity for an independent, detail-oriented engineer who enjoys taking ownership of technically challenging projects and seeing designs progress toward completion.
Accountabilities:
- Prepare detailed civil site plans for self-storage, industrial, and multifamily developments while ensuring alignment with applicable regulatory standards, engineering requirements, and project specifications.
- Develop grading, drainage, erosion-control, stormwater, and utility plans using boundary surveys, topographic maps, and other project information.
- Perform drainage, detention and retention, earthwork, and cut-and-fill calculations to support effective and constructible site designs.
- Apply value-engineering principles throughout the design process to identify opportunities to reduce sitework and overall construction costs without compromising project requirements.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and provide estimating support to help project teams understand anticipated construction requirements and costs.
- Produce architectural and building-related drawings, including floor plans, building layouts, elevations, and basic renderings for mixed-unit self-storage and industrial developments.
- Support contractor bidding activities, including bid preparation and comparisons, permitting coordination, and communication with project stakeholders.
- Coordinate with contractors and internal project teams to address design and construction needs, maintain clear communication, and facilitate project progress.
- Provide regular schedule updates and manage priorities across multiple active projects to ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, with approximately 3–5 years of professional experience in civil engineering, site design, building plans, and coordination with U.S.-based contractors.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience with grading, drainage, stormwater, utility design, erosion control, and earthwork calculations.
- Have strong knowledge of U.S. engineering standards, construction practices, and site-development requirements.
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, which is mandatory; experience with Civil 3D is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with HydroCAD, StormCAD, or comparable civil engineering and stormwater design software is an advantage.
- Be comfortable preparing construction plans and technical drawings based on surveys, topographic information, and project specifications.
- Have strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project-management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly with contractors, project teams, and other stakeholders throughout the design and construction process.
- Be capable of working independently, managing competing priorities, and delivering accurate work across multiple projects.
- Be comfortable working remotely on a Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Central Time schedule.
- Monthly compensation: $1,500–$2,000 USD, depending on experience.
- Fully remote work arrangement.
- Monday–Friday schedule aligned with U.S. Central Time business hours.
- Opportunity to work on diverse real estate development projects across self-storage, industrial, and multifamily sectors.
- Exposure to projects spanning the full development and construction lifecycle.
- Opportunity to contribute to value engineering, cost optimization, estimating, permitting, and contractor coordination.
- Collaborative environment with opportunities to take ownership of multiple active projects.
- Potential for professional growth through hands-on involvement in complex U.S. construction projects.
