Caruso is a family owned, 4th generation company that delivers fresh ready-to-eat, and pre-cut produce, sandwiches, salads, and fresh meal kits to retail distribution centers and direct-to-retail stores all over the USA and we are growing!
We are looking for experienced Class A Drivers to pick up routes between 6 PM and 8 PM out of Chester, VA. This will be a mix of 26ft Box Truck and 53ft Tractor Trailer driving.
This is touch freight.
Position Summary
The CDL-A Driver operates a commercial motor vehicle to transport cargo safely, efficiently, and on schedule. This role is responsible for following all DOT and company safety requirements, completing required vehicle inspections, maintaining accurate delivery documentation, and communicating with dispatch regarding route status, special instructions, delays, or issues. A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Vehicle Operation: Safely operate commercial motor vehicles over short, regional, or long-distance routes in varying weather, road, and traffic conditions.
- Safety Inspections: Complete thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, including brakes, tires, fluids, and lights, and report mechanical concerns promptly.
- Cargo Management: Verify manifests, coordinate or assist with loading and unloading, and ensure cargo is properly stored, secured, and protected from damage.
- Regulatory Compliance: Follow all DOT regulations, including Electronic Logging Device (ELD) requirements and Hours-of-Service (HOS) rules.
- Documentation: Accurately record delivery times, mileage, fuel receipts, toll expenses, and customer signoffs.
- Communication and Customer Service: Maintain professional communication with dispatchers, warehouse personnel, customers, and other business partners.
Skills and Qualifications
- CDL License: Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License in good standing.
- Driving Record: Maintain a clean driving record with no recent major moving violations, DUIs/OWIs, or preventable at-fault accidents.
- Medical Clearance: Possess and maintain a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Drug and Alcohol Compliance: Comply with all required federal pre-employment, random, and post-incident drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Technology Skills: Use electronic logging software, mobile dispatch applications, GPS systems, and other required transportation technology.
Physical Requirements
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old for interstate commerce.
- Stamina: Ability to sit, drive, and remain alert for extended periods within legal daily limits.
- Physical Strength: Ability to bend, climb in and out of a high cab, and frequently lift cargo ranging from 25 to 75+ pounds.
