About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cloud Systems Engineer to join a large Federal Government technology environment and support the ongoing development, automation and optimisation of cloud and infrastructure services.
This is a highly technical role suited to an engineer with strong Microsoft Azure, networking, Windows and Red Hat Linux experience, combined with mature scripting and automation capabilities.
You'll help automate service tasks, integrate systems and improve the sustainability of application and infrastructure environments. The role will also have a strong focus on cloud cost optimisation and FinOps, including identifying opportunities to improve service utilisation, licensing and infrastructure efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
Design, implement and support Microsoft Azure cloud services and infrastructure
Engineer and troubleshoot Azure networking and security solutions
Develop automation and service improvements using PowerShell, Python and Bash
Support Windows Server, Windows Desktop and Red Hat Linux environments
Develop and maintain DevOps and CI/CD processes
Automate operational tasks and integrate multiple systems to reduce manual effort
Support Microsoft 365 security, Intune, Active Directory and PKI services
Use Azure DevOps to support development, automation and infrastructure activities
Investigate and develop FinOps and cloud cost optimisation practices
Analyse cloud service usage and licensing to identify opportunities for cost reduction
Identify opportunities to reuse existing infrastructure and optimise IaaS consumption
Produce high-quality technical designs, security documentation and standard operating procedures
Ensure infrastructure changes align with relevant security requirements and Australian Government security frameworks
About You
To be successful, you will have:
Strong commercial or enterprise experience as a Cloud Systems Engineer / Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure
Strong Azure networking and security knowledge
Advanced scripting and automation skills across PowerShell, Python and Bash
Strong Windows Server and Windows Desktop experience
Experience administering Red Hat Linux
Strong understanding of DevOps principles and practices
Experience with Azure DevOps
Experience with Microsoft Intune, Active Directory and PKI
Understanding of Microsoft 365 security
Strong technical documentation skills
Ability to work across multiple technologies and integrate complex systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable Experience
Experience with the following will be highly regarded:
FinOps and automated cloud cost management
Azure cost optimisation and IaaS optimisation
Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code licensing and service usage
Australian Government security controls, including ACSC Essential Eight and ISM
Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code
