Commissioning Manager

Position Purpose

Takes the plant from installed to proven. Owns system turnover, pre commissioning, functional testing, dry runs and the introduction of first feed, and hands a working plant to operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Build the commissioning strategy, system boundary definition and turnover sequence with engineering and operations.
• Own the commissioning schedule and integrate it with the remaining construction and punch list work.
• Direct pre commissioning activities including flushing, blowing, drying, leak testing, motor solo runs and instrument loop checks.
• Run functional testing and dry runs, capture preliminary performance results and disposition deviations.
• Verify all safety systems are proven before first introduction of hazardous materials, including gas detection, fire suppression, relief devices and emergency shutdown.
• Coordinate vendor field service representatives so their site time is used efficiently and their sign offs are captured.
• Lead pre startup safety review and confirm every recommendation is closed before startup.
• Manage the formal care, custody and control transfer of each system to the Operations Manager.

Required Qualifications

• Ten or more years of process plant commissioning, with at least two greenfield startups in a lead role.
• Deep working knowledge of system turnover, pre commissioning sequences and functional testing.
• Experience running a pre startup safety review.
• Ability to hold a startup date honestly, including saying no when a system is not ready.

Preferred Qualifications

• Fermentation, biochemical or specialty chemicals commissioning experience.
• Commissioning management software experience such as GoTechnology or WinPCS.
