Computational Biology Expert

Role Title: Computational Biology Expert

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Computational Biology Experts to contribute their technical expertise to an innovative customer-driven project. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work

  1. Collaborate on assignments designed to evaluate and enhance the technical capabilities of AI coding agents in computational biology contexts.
  2. Provide real-world use cases demonstrating the application of AI agents—specifically Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork—in complex computational biology scenarios.
  3. Document detailed workflows, approaches, and outcomes achieved using AI agents for sequence generation and technical problem-solving, rather than simple chat-based interactions.
  4. Deliver clear, comprehensive written and verbal feedback on model performance, usability, and potential for integration in professional STEM environments.
  5. Contribute data and insights reflecting advanced usage, such as navigating large codebases, debugging intricate issues, and architecting solutions in computational biology.
  6. Participate in structured assignments that inform model improvements and support the creation of robust, domain-specific benchmarks.
  7. Engage in discussions with the project team to help iterate on tools and techniques, articulating complex technical information effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Hands-on expertise in computational biology, with a proven track record of tackling complex technical projects using AI coding agents beyond basic code generation.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency with Codex, Claude Science, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork, with emphasis on leveraging these agents to generate sequences in authentic workflows.
  3. Experience navigating and operating within large codebases, implementing end-to-end features, and managing architectural changes in computational settings.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to describe problem-solving processes and technical outcomes in detail.
  5. Active engagement as a STEM professional, currently applying AI coding agents to challenging real-world problems.
  6. Capability to share well-articulated feedback and nuanced insights to shape the evolution of AI systems in computational biology.
  7. Familiarity with ambiguity in problem spaces and a track record of adapting tools to solve novel or unclear technical challenges.
