Conference, Sales & Events Manager
Oaks Port Douglas Resort are looking for an experienced Conference, Sales & Events Manager to join their team on a full-time basis.
This role extends beyond traditional event coordination, with a strong focus on driving MICE, wedding, and local event business, building and maintaining key market relationships, and identifying opportunities to grow revenue for the resort. You will play a critical role in achieving conferencing and events targets, maximising profitability, and delivering exceptional experiences across all events, weddings, conferences, and social functions.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Proactively source and secure new conference, events, corporate and group business through local networking, industry engagement and relationship building.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, tourism partners, event planners, wedding coordinators, and key community stakeholders.
- Drive enquiry conversion through proactive follow-up and a strong sales-focused approach.
- Identify and pursue opportunities to grow conference, wedding, and social event revenue during need periods.
- Conduct regular sales calls, networking activities, client entertainment, and business development initiatives.
- Identify key need periods and implement promotional strategies to maximise revenue opportunities
- Prepare proposals, negotiate contracts, and ensure all events are costed to achieve profitability targets
- Monitor event profitability, including managing costs, preparing P&L reporting, and ensuring budgets are met and exceeded
- Liaise with internal departments and external vendors to deliver high-quality events aligned with brand standards
- Actively promote conferencing, events, and food & beverage offerings in line with the annual strategic marketing plan
- Act as a problem solver, managing issues before, during, and after events to ensure client satisfaction
We are looking for a passionate and commercially driven Conference, Sales & Events professional who enjoys leading a team and delivering exceptional customer experiences, while achieving strong sales results.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Demonstrated experience in sales, business development and revenue generation within the hotel, tourism, events, or hospitality industry.
- Knowledge of the local Port Douglas, Cairns or broader Far North Queensland market would be advantageous
- Experience using iVvy would be highly regarded.
- Proven ability to convert leads into confirmed business and achieve revenue targets.
- Strong local networking, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events simultaneously
- A commercially focused mindset with the ability to identify opportunities and drive business growth.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage reporting and administrative requirements
