We Build What Matters.
As a Design Engineer at Felix Construction, you will be responsible for preparing schematics, layout drawings, bill of materials, and submittals for electrical control panels according to UL508A and NEC. This role is integral to our Electrical Department and contributes directly to the creation of world class industrial control systems. You will collaborate with end-users, consulting engineers, project managers, and panel fabricators to ensure systems meet the highest quality standards.
The position offers opportunities to make an impact while working on a wide variety of projects to solve challenging applications. This role reports to the Design Engineering Manager under the Director of Industrial Automation and Controls, who will provide guidance and support as you help drive Felix's continued success in the industrial construction industry.
What You'll Do
Utilize AutoCAD to draft electrical schematics, wiring diagram, and panel layouts
Develop BOMs, I/O lists, and requirements for control panels
Interpret client specifications and communicate with customers to understand objectives and preferences
Understand vendor data sheets to determine functionality and applicability of components
Use knowledge of fabrication techniques, UL standards and field installation to develop drawing packages
Document control panel designs, revisions, and updates accurately and comprehensively
Troubleshoot problems that occur during startup that are caused by incorrect drawings, changes in customer desires, inaccurate specifications, or other technical issues
Collaborate with project managers and estimators to assess potential projects and submit proposals
Assess current project conditions with field site visits
Serve as technical lead for design department and mentor less experienced staff, which includes supervising Designers/Drafters
Who You Are
Electrical Engineering degree from 4-year university or equivalent industrial electrical experience
5+ years of experience in industrial controls
Strong skills in AutoCAD and Bluebeam
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to: Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint
Strong oral and written communication skills in the English language
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives
Ability to take initiative and handle ambiguity professionally
Must have the legal right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship indefinitely
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Complete pre-employment drug screen
