POSITION OVERVIEW

The Corporate Maintenance Manager is the steward of PowerGrid's equipment asset portfolio. This role manages the Grid Alliance mechanics team, oversees all equipment make-ready and field preparation, approves major repairs (>$2,500), makes repair vs. replace decisions based on total cost of ownership, develops equipment replacement strategy, and conducts equipment evaluations during M&A due diligence. This person balances capital protection with operational efficiency, ensures equipment is properly maintained and field-ready, and drives maintenance cost reduction across all business units.

Safety is foundational. Equipment must be properly maintained to protect operations teams, maximize useful life, and operate reliably in the field.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Grid Alliance Mechanics & Equipment Make-Ready Operations

Directly manage Grid Alliance mechanics team responsible for equipment make-ready and field preparation

Oversee all equipment receive, inspection, PM completion, upfitting, and field-ready certification

Ensure equipment meets company standards and is ready to deploy on day 1 arrival at business unit

Manage mechanics scheduling, workload, and equipment flow through make-ready process

Establish and enforce make-ready quality standards and timelines

Conduct regular quality audits of completed equipment

Ensure equipment returned from field is properly inspected, repaired, and readied for next deployment

Major Repair Approval & Asset Decisions

Review and approve/deny ALL equipment repairs exceeding $2,500

Conduct repair vs. replace analysis using total cost of ownership (TCO)

Make capital decisions: repair, refurbish, or dispose?

Validate repair necessity: Was equipment properly maintained? Is repair justified?

Escalate decisions >$10K to VP of Fleet

Root Cause Analysis

Investigate major failures (>$10K) to determine root cause

Answer: Was PM neglected? Why did we lose the engine?

Identify maintenance failures that contributed to equipment failure

Develop corrective actions and share lessons across business units

Total Cost of Ownership & Equipment Strategy

Develop TCO analysis for repair/replace decisions and fleet-level strategy

Calculate cost per operating hour by equipment type and age

Develop strategic equipment replacement recommendations

Identify equipment candidates for refurbishment, life extension, or disposal

M&A Equipment Evaluation & Due Diligence

Conduct equipment evaluations on acquired company fleets during M&A due diligence process

Assess condition, maintenance history, and compliance status of acquired equipment

Estimate refurbishment/repair costs and remaining useful life

Provide equipment valuation and TCO analysis for acquisition evaluation

Develop recommendations: retain, refurbish, or dispose of acquired assets

Identify equipment integration requirements for acquired fleets

Support VP of Fleet in acquisition financial analysis and deal decision-making

Preventive Maintenance Program

Design enterprise PM standards and schedules for all asset classes

Audit business unit PM compliance; escalate deviations

Hold business units accountable to maintenance discipline

Warranty & Cost Recovery

Validate warranty eligibility for major repairs

Coordinate warranty claims with manufacturers

Maximize warranty recovery; identify claim trends

Fleetio System Ownership (Maintenance & Reporting)

Own Fleetio system for equipment maintenance tracking and reporting

Manage PM schedules, work orders, and maintenance history

Develop maintenance dashboards and reporting

Create monthly/quarterly maintenance cost reports, TCO analysis, and compliance scorecards

Use Fleetio data to support repair/replace decisions and equipment strategy

Train business units on Fleetio maintenance functions

Vendor & Shop Management

Establish and manage relationships with authorized repair shops and vendors

Negotiate service rates, labor rates, and parts pricing

Develop SLAs with key vendors; audit invoice accuracy and repair quality

Monitor vendor performance and hold them accountable

Data Analysis & Cost Reduction

Analyze $26.1M annual maintenance budget; identify cost drivers and outliers

Segment costs by asset type, business unit, age; identify high-cost equipment

Partner with business unit fleet managers to solve maintenance challenges

Target 5-15% annual maintenance cost reduction through efficiency and process improvement

Prepare executive board packs on maintenance costs, equipment strategy, and cost reduction opportunities

Compliance & Documentation

Ensure equipment meets DOT/OSHA maintenance compliance

Maintain complete maintenance records and asset history

CORE COMPETENCIES

Team leadership: managing mechanics team, workload planning, quality oversight

Capital asset management: TCO analysis, repair vs. replace decisions

Maintenance operations: equipment make-ready, field preparation, quality standards

Equipment evaluation: assessing condition, estimating repair/refurbishment costs

Heavy equipment expertise: construction, utility, industrial equipment

Financial analysis: TCO modeling, cost analysis, business case development

Data analysis: extracting insights from maintenance data

Vendor management: negotiating contracts, managing performance

Systems fluency: Fleetio and fleet management platforms

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years fleet or equipment maintenance management in enterprise environments

5+ years managing maintenance teams or mechanics operations

Industry experience in power, utilities, or heavy equipment is strongly preferred

Proven experience with repair vs. replace decisions and TCO analysis

Demonstrated cost reduction track record while maintaining equipment reliability

Strong experience with heavy equipment or utility fleet maintenance (required)

Experience with equipment acquisition evaluations or M&A due diligence (preferred)

Experience with maintenance management systems (Fleetio or similar)

Proven root cause analysis and failure investigation skills

Strong Excel and data analysis skills

Experience managing vendor relationships and negotiating contracts

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, business, operations, or related field

Preferred: ASE certification or fleet technician background
