Tulsa City-County Library is looking for a dynamic and outgoing individual to provide an exceptional customer service experience at the Black Wall Street Sundry located at the new Rudisill Regional Library.
The ideal candidate will be:

- Has an eye for design; can promote sales through attractive displays;
- Will collaborate between designers and decision makers to best represent the community.

- Engages with guests as a brand ambassador for the Sundry and for TCCL;
- Takes pride and ownership of the role of the Black Wall Street Sundry, advocating for its success with customers and stakeholders alike.
INTENTIONAL:
- Uses data to inform decision makers on merchandising and best practices for the success of the store;
- Takes initiative to draw visitors to the store;
- Can work independently; uses sound judgement regarding retail merchandise and loss prevention; can communicate price points and return policies clearly with customers;
- Can assist in directing library customers to areas of interest and answer questions about library programs or services.
Opening in Fall 2026, Rudisill Regional Library is a 33,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art library designed to serve as a destination for learning, creativity, and community connection. Located in Tulsa's Historic Greenwood District, the library features the BOK Harmony Hall Event Center, multiple meeting rooms, two outdoor patios, a makerspace, an expansive children's area, and welcoming spaces for library customers. This space is also home to the African American Resource Center and a satellite location of TCCL's renowned Genealogy Center, making it a unique cultural, educational, and research destination within Tulsa.
The Black Wall Street Sundry is a unique gift shop for TCCL, currently featuring items designed by TCCL staff and local artists to celebrate the Historic Greenwood District, The African American Resource Center, and the future of the Rudisill Regional Library.
Location: 1017 N Greenwood, Tulsa, OK.
Salary: $14.42 / hour
Status: Part-Time, 20 hours / week
Schedule:
Monday- Friday: 2pm – 6pm, and every other Saturday 12pm – 4pm
Essential Functions and Qualifications Include:
Provides excellent service to customers visiting the retail space in the new Rudisill Regional Library. When not interacting with Sundry customers, will update merchandise displays, organize inventory, and assist public service staff at Zone A desk. Role requires a high level of initiative and engagement to promote the new retail experience to the community and customers alike. Must remain flexible throughout the workday in the type of work to be accomplished in both the Sundry and the public service floor.
Additional responsibilities include:·
- Greets customers entering the building and introduces them to the retail space;
- Provides an overview of items available in the store, and cross sells appropriate items of interest to the customer;
- Utilizes Point of Sale (POS) system to ring up customer orders, ensuring product are the correct size and selection, and advising customers of the return policy;
- Organizes inventory and ensures displays are regularly updated with appealing merchandising;
- Ensure Sundry signage regarding prices is current and visible;
- Notifies leadership when inventory levels may be suddenly low;
- Provides general library information to customers not visiting the Sundry, and roams to assist within sight of the Sundry;
- Assists leadership with touring meeting rooms for interested parties;
- Assists customers with self-check machines by instructing how to charge, renew, and discharge library materials to/from customers;
- Registers customers by issuing and updating library cards;
- Sorts and routes returned materials to proper location and ensures that the library is neat and organized so customers can easily find what they need;
- Receives and records fines and lost materials information;
- Checks library materials for damage and performs minor repairs;
- Maintains orderly service areas.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; with a demonstrated ability to greet and engage with customers proactively;
- Knowledge of general library procedures, policies, and operations;
- Knowledge of product merchandising best practices, and ability to create appealing displays;
- May work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and occasional Sundays as the Sundry hours of operation expand.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required;
- Some college level coursework preferred;
- One year customer service experience required;
- Experience using and performing basic troubleshooting of POS systems;
- Previous retail and/or merchandising experience preferred;
Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions
- Work may require moving a wheeled book cart with an initial push force of 70 pounds, and once rolling, pushing 35 pounds;
- Occasional light lifting such as boxes of products or other materials (up to 30 pounds) may be required; heavier items should be reduced to smaller, lighter components;
- Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time, with regular stooping and bending;
- There are no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal retail environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
