Role Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior DevOps C Software Engineer to join the Data Ingestion Tooling team within the Volkswagen Group ecosystem. The engineer will design, develop, maintain, and evolve on-premises data ingestion solutions that support reliable, secure, and scalable data transfer from engineering environments into cloud-based platforms.

This role combines software engineering, DevOps, cloud integration, observability, and platform engineering. The engineer will collaborate with product owners, cloud teams, backend developers, data consumers, infrastructure teams, and support organizations to ensure stable ingestion workflows, intuitive user experiences, and operational excellence across uploader stations and related tooling.


Core Mission

  • Develop and operate enterprise-grade data ingestion tools used in engineering and uploader station environments.
  • Ensure secure, reliable, observable, and maintainable ingestion flows from on-premises environments into cloud solutions.
  • Improve user experience for operators and support teams through robust GUI layers and workflow-oriented tooling.
  • Drive continuous improvement in architecture, automation, quality, monitoring, and operational reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Tool Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain data ingestion tools using advanced Python engineering practices.
  • Build and optimize local tool functionalities, ingestion pipelines, automation components, and on-premises services.
  • Refactor and modernize existing applications to improve maintainability, scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Apply Clean Code principles, software design patterns, debugging, profiling, and structured documentation.

Frontend & User Experience

  • Develop and maintain GUI layers using technologies such as PyǪt, EEL, CSS, HTML, and related frameworks.
  • Improve usability for uploader station operators, support teams, and engineering users.
  • Translate operational requirements into intuitive and reliable tooling workflows.

DevOps, CI/CD & Release Engineering

  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for build, test, quality validation, packaging, and release automation.
  • Manage GitHub repositories, version control strategies, branching models, pull requests, and GitHub workflows.
  • Use JFrog or similar artifact management solutions for reliable software distribution and package lifecycle management.

Quality Engineering & Testing

  • Implement static code analysis and quality gates using Pylint, SonarǪube, and comparable tools.
  • Develop and maintain unit tests, integration tests, and automated validation checks.
  • Perform code reviews, root cause analysis, debugging, profiling, and continuous quality improvement.

Cloud & API Integration

  • Support Azure-native services, API-based ingestion, automation, and cloud infrastructure improvements.
  • Manage evolving APIs, data contract alignment, onboarding of new data types, and cross-team technical interfaces.
  • Bridge on-premises tooling requirements with cloud-based ingestion platforms and backend services.

Security, Authentication & Compliance

  • Work on secure data handling, credential rotation, authentication methods, and secure ingestion design.
  • Ensure compliance with Volkswagen Group policies, security requirements, and internal governance standards.
  • Support secure integration of local tools, cloud services, APIs, credentials, and operational environments.

Platform Engineering & Operating Systems

  • Maintain and evolve Windows Services, packaging, installation flows, WSL interplay, and low-level OS integration.
  • Develop local services on Windows machines and automate operational tasks with PowerShell and Bash.
  • Troubleshoot Windows, Linux, networking, service, installation, and deployment issues in on-premises environments.

Observability & Monitoring

  • Maintain observability solutions using LGTM stack, Grafana dashboards, telemetry, alerts, and proactive monitoring.
  • Improve operational reliability across uploader stations through logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and incident insights.
  • Support continuous service improvement by identifying trends, bottlenecks, and stability risks.

Recommended Experience

  • Experience developing on-premises tools for engineering, production-like, or enterprise environments.
  • Experience working with data ingestion, data transfer, telemetry, uploader stations, or data platform solutions.
  • Experience integrating local Windows-based applications with APIs, cloud services, and enterprise authentication mechanisms.
  • Experience in automotive, engineering, or large-scale enterprise environments is highly beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Volkswagen Group processes, security expectations, and cross-team collaboration models is an advantage.
