Job Description

Client is seeking a Data Architect with over a decade of experience designing and owning enterprise data platforms end to end. The role requires strong hands-on depth in AWS and Snowflake, covering service selection and trade-offs, ingestion and authentication patterns, data modelling, and cost and performance optimisation.

Equally important is breadth across enterprise integration platforms (Salesforce, MuleSoft, Informatica IICS), data governance, and GenAI-enabled architectures, including the guardrails required to operate them safely in a regulated environment.

The role is client-facing and involves working with global pharma organisations across both pre-sales and delivery, translating regulatory and domain constraints into practical, scalable architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end architecture for data platforms on AWS and Snowflake, from ingestion through consumption.
  • Define data modelling, integration, and metadata strategies, and set architecture standards for delivery teams.
  • Design AI-ready platforms and the guardrails required for GenAI solutions on regulated pharma data.
  • Build governance, security, and observability into the design rather than retrofitting them.
  • Work with client stakeholders across pre-sales and delivery, translating business and regulatory requirements into architecture.
  • Evaluate emerging platform capabilities and optimise existing systems for cost, performance, and scalability.

Candidate Profile

  • 10+ years in data and analytics, including 5+ years owning architecture decisions.
  • Depth in AWS and Snowflake, built across a range of client environments and problem types.
  • Breadth across data platforms, engineering, GenAI, and governance, with the ability to work across all four within the same engagement.
  • Relevant experience may sit under titles such as Data Architect, Solution Architect, AWS Architect, Cloud Architect, or Snowflake Architect.

Must-Have Skills

  • AWS data services S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EMR, Redshift, Kinesis/MSK, IAM, Lake Formation with clear rationale for service selection and trade-offs made on past engagements.
  • Snowflake at product level: warehouse sizing and cost control, RBAC, secure data sharing, Snowpark, Streams and Tasks, Dynamic Tables, Iceberg, Time Travel, and cloning.
  • Ingestion and authentication patterns across batch, CDC, streaming, file-based,and API sources, with the matching identity and access design (IAM roles, key- pair and OAuth, federated access, network policies, PrivateLink, secrets management).
  • Pipeline and data model design across landing, transformation, serving, and consumption including orchestration (Airflow, Step Functions), transformation frameworks (dbt, Snowpark, Spark), and modelling approaches such as dimensional, Data Vault, and wide-table.
  • Observability by design: pipeline SLAs, data quality, freshness checks, lineage, cost monitoring, and alerting.
  • Enterprise integration exposure across Salesforce, MuleSoft, or Informatica IICS, including API-led and event-driven patterns, master data management, and reconciliation across source systems.
  • GenAI architectures on enterprise data RAG patterns, vector stores, embedding pipelines, and semantic layers with familiarity across Bedrock, SageMaker, or Snowflake Cortex.
  • GenAI guardrails: grounding and evaluation, hallucination controls, PII masking, prompt and response logging, and access control in model-mediated workflows.
  • Governance and security built into the platform: cataloguing, lineage, data contracts, classification, encryption, dynamic masking, row- and column-level security, and audit trails, using tools such as Collibra, Alation, Atlan, or Snowflake Horizon.
  • Strong SQL and Python, with Spark, Scala, or Java as required.

Pharma Domain Expertise

  • Apply understanding of pharma-specific data domains including clinical trial data, real-world evidence (RWE), commercial/sales data, regulatory submissions, and supply chain to design architectures that reflect the structure and sensitivity of that data.
  • Experience working with pharma data across at least two functional areas (e.g., Clinical, Commercial, Regulatory, R&D, Medical Affairs, Supply Chain) understanding the data models, source systems, and business context of each.
  • Familiarity with pharma-specific data sources and platforms such as IQVIA, Symphony Health, Veeva, clinical EDC systems (Medidata, Oracle Clinical), or regulatory submission data.
  • Experience architecting solutions for sensitive pharma data categories patient-level data, adverse event reporting, clinical trial results with appropriate anonymization, access controls, and lineage tracking.
  • Design secure data solutions with deep knowledge of pharma-relevant compliance standards GDPR, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, GxP including audit trail design, data integrity controls, and validated system requirements.
  • Ensure data solutions are designed with pharma-grade compliance in mind, including GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, and HIPAA, going beyond checkbox compliance to embed these requirements into architecture decisions from the ground up.
  • Pharma consulting or client-facing experience is a strong differentiator; ability to translate regulatory and domain constraints into actionable architectural patterns.

Consulting and Ways of Working

  • Strong communication is essential: able to present and whiteboard architecture, and explain trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience translating data, analytical, and functional requirements into technical requirements for global customers.
  • Flexible with changing priorities and comfortable working with ambiguity.
  • Agile/Scrum delivery experience, working across analysts, engineers, DevOps, and client-side teams.
