Data Center Engineer
Capacity Planning & Management
• Develop and maintain data center capacity models (power, cooling, space, network, and compute).
• Forecast short-term and long-term capacity requirements based on business growth and project pipelines.
• Monitor utilization trends and recommend optimization strategies.
• Ensure adequate capacity is available to meet SLA and performance requirements.
Engineering & Design
• Support design and deployment of data center infrastructure (rack layouts, power distribution, cooling systems).
• Collaborate with design teams to ensure scalability, redundancy, and efficiency (e.g., Tier standards).
• Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Project Support
• Work closely with project managers to align capacity planning with project timelines.
• Provide technical input during project planning, execution, and commissioning phases.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Operational Optimization
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency (e.g., PUE optimization, load balancing).
• Implement tools and dashboards for capacity tracking and reporting.
• Support incident analysis related to capacity constraints or engineering failures.
Stakeholder Management
• Liaise with IT, operations, and business units to gather requirements.
• Communicate capacity risks, constraints, and recommendations to leadership.
• Prepare reports and presentations for senior management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. • Master's degree is a plus. Experience • 5–10+ years of experience in data center engineering, capacity planning, or infrastructure management. • Experience with hyperscale or colocation data centers preferred. • Proven experience in capacity modeling and forecasting. Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of: • Data center power and cooling systems (UPS, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH) • Rack capacity planning and space optimization • Network and compute infrastructure basics • Familiarity with DCIM tools and monitoring systems. • Understanding of redundancy standards (e.g., N, N+1, 2N).
