At Optiver, we strive for excellence in everything we do. We’re looking for a Data Center Engineer that shares our excellence-only mindset. Because we believe that thoughtfully planned and well‑orchestrated data center infrastructure is just as important as the algorithms running on our trading software. Without best‑in‑class infrastructure, there would be no foundation upon which to build our global market making core business. For that reason, we are looking for a Data Center Engineer who is committed to continuous improvement and thrives bringing new ideas to the table. This is a chance to take ownership of the physical parts of our trading infrastructure across multiple data centers and thousands of servers, all the while striving for simplicity and operational excellence.

WHO WE ARE Optiver is a tech-driven trading firm and leading global market maker. For over 35 years, Optiver has been improving financial markets worldwide, making them more transparent and efficient for all participants. With more than 1,400 employees in offices around the world, we’re united in our commitment to improving the market through competitive pricing, execution and thorough risk management. By providing liquidity on multiple exchanges across the world, we actively trade on 70+ exchanges, where we’re trusted to always provide accurate buy and sell pricing – no matter the market conditions.

WHAT YOU’LL DO As a Data Center Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and optimising our APAC data center and exchange colocation environments. Based in Singapore, you will support local and regional data centre operations, as well as working with remote technicians to support data centres across APAC. You will have the opportunity to combine your knowledge in IT Infrastructure with a problem‑solving mindset to solve business issues and independently work on improvement opportunities. You will be working on projects of all sizes, either as a resource or leading engineer, delivering from conception through to completion in this hands‑on, high‑impact role. Specifically, your responsibilities include:

Installing and cabling switches, servers, and appliances in our local data centre locations

Facilitating installation of servers and network equipment with smart hands across the region

Managing power and space including monitoring and capacity planning

Maintaining a consistent and clean cable management philosophy

Managing spare parts and cabling inventory

Performing break‑fix repairs, replacing components like hard drives, memory and transceivers

Planning and executing data center build‑outs, equipment relocations, and new colocation deployments

Getting equipment to and from remote co‑locations including packing/shipping

Working hours will involve a mixture of core business hours for planning, coordination, and monitoring, with weekend and out‑of‑hours work for physical infrastructure changes (with time off in lieu). Most work will be performed within Singapore, with occasional travel to other APAC sites as required.

WHO YOU ARE Technical Skills

Experience working in modern, large‑scale data centers

Ability to identify basic parts of network equipment (SFPs, line cards, chassis) and servers (memory, network cards, hard drives)

Knowledge of structured cabling systems (Cat 5, Cat 6, multi‑mode, and single‑mode fiber)

Familiarity with power and communications cabling standards

Experience with cable testers to troubleshoot both fiber and copper cabling issues

An understanding of change control processes

Basic server operating system installation and configuration skills

Strong documentation skills and a meticulous approach to tracking details

Non‑Technical Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Creative problem‑solving mindset, bringing new ideas to improve data center operations

Experience leading or coordinating resources in infrastructure projects, from conception to completion

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in fast‑paced environments

Ability to lift up to 30 kg

Willingness to work flexible hours outside of regular business hours, including weekends, to execute physical infrastructure changes

Willingness to travel to support regional data center operations

WHAT YOU’LL GET
